I hope this is the right spot for this question, it was a toss up between here and bonding.
I have a male Netherland dwarf, Socks, and female dutch, daisy. They have both been fixed for over 4 months now, and about 2 months ago I moved their cages into the same room fairly close together. The first night Socks seemed very upset. Poop everywhere, cage destroyed, and when I went to feed him he bit me for the first time ever. Usually he grunts at me and swats my hands away which I attribute to his “Napoleon complex” or “little man syndrome” …he’s just always a bit feisty, but NEVER bites so I was taken back by it. So, I pulled their cages a bit farther apart for a few days. He seemed to settle down after that. About a week later I traded their igloos. Daisy didnt care, shes very laid back. Socks seemed okay with it too so I moved their cages back close. They both were fine. Now, a couple days ago was their first “date.” There was quite a bit of mounting from socks. But no chasing, fighting, and they ate together and laid down. All went well. I put them back in their cages when I had to go to work. I came back and they were okay. And I didnt get a chance to let them date again yet. But, I did however just come to do just that to find socks cage completely destroyed again with both poop and pee everywhere. All over his bed, cage floor, even in the litterbox also. I don’t understand this behavior. Any idea? He’s been good with his litterbox for 5 years!
