  I’ve had my rabbit for 4 years now and he’s been pretty well litter trained from the start. He always peed and pooed in a corner of his cage, so I put the toilet there and never worried again. I did read that not 100% of their poo will fall in there, as some does get scattered around his cage, but as long as he pees there I never worry. He gets to run around the garage and never leaves a mess (except when he starts shedding). So he eats, drinks in his cage to contain the mess in there, but other than that he roams around the garage.
  
  In the past few weeks I’ve been bringing him to my girlfriend’s place on the weekend. I bring the cage so he’s familiar with his area, and then setup a pen in a corner of her room so he has some space to run. It turns out he loves the carpet. He digs at it, popcorns/binkys, lies down on it, and in general is adorable in front of us.
  
  However… he poos on the carpet. He leaves droppings everywhere. His pee is contained in the toilet (thank goodness), but every few hours I find two dozen or so coco puffs all over the carpet. It’s dry so we’re not freaking out, but he doesn’t seem to get it even if I pick up his poo every hour and throw it in his toilet.
  
  Why is he doing this and how can we get him to stop? Is it something about the carpet?

  Is he neutered? If he’s that good w/ litter I’m assuming he is, and he’s just staking out his new turf at your gf’s. Can you put down an old sheet or something so he’s not going on the carpet she uses the rest of the time when you aren’t there? That would bother me, but that’s me. Sounds like you have a very nice, tolerant gf!i

  Oh, and do you put his hay in the litter box so he can poop and eat in it and maybe reestablish it as a place to use?

  Yes he’s neutered! And yes my gf is tolerant! Good thing rabbit poop is dry so it’s just a matter of scooping it up and throwing it in the litter pan. My gf doesn’t flip out about it anymore, but it’s slightly annoying to have to do it every few hours.
  
  The thing is my bun should know how to poop in there. I brought him back to my place this morning and I can guarantee you that when I return tonight 99% of the droppings will be in that toilet. He somehow unlearns or wants to poop on the carpet at my gf’s place though.
  
  I’m not sure what’s needed. do I need to go back to Litter Training 101 and sit next to him and catch him in the act of pooping?

  I’m too lazy to work that hard to litter train. They seem to do it if and when they want to. I’m kinda surprised no one else has jumped in here, but maybe I’m nailing it on the head. I just really think it’s the different environment and would put something over the carpet and bare with it and see if he adjusts after more visits. I know…you don’t mind cleaning it up. Again, kudos to your gf! Give her an extra hug from Megabunny!!

  I think because it’s a new place at your gf’s so it is a matter of retraining him while he is there – I think it’s a change in routine too that causes it. Sounds like you are on the right track to retrain at your gf’s house too :~)
