Well, I got Oreo spayed yesterday. The time was finally perfect for it and my bunny girl was more than ready.
My vet told me that the surgery went great, and Oreo did fine and reacted fine to the pre-surgery meds.
Later that afternoon, when I brought her home, I took out her hidey-box that came with her cage due to the fact that she loves jumping on it and on top of it is where she usually eats. I took a box she already loves and made it easy for her to go into when she was ready.
I was able to hand feed and give her some water yesterday, thankfully. Today Oreo has been drinking and eating pretty much all on her own, but she is still very groggy. I am keeping her favorite lettuce in her veggie bowl in the cage with her along with pellets with a couple of mild treats she likes in a different bowl, trying to tempt her to eat more and keeping her water bottle full of fresh water.
I was given 5 doses of Metacam(I think its called?) for her and gave her first dose today. She just licked it up! Loved it.
I’ve also been keeping her cage clean, as I read somewhere that poop and pee can bother the wound.
I only got a look at the area yesterday briefly and it looked fine. Pink skin from where they shaved her and the incisions seemed faint but noticeable. Didn’t look red really or puffy.
Haven’t been able to check the incision site today though. I picked her up very easily and gently in a towel to give her the pain meds, but I couldn’t get a look to make sure her incision site wasn’t getting infected or anything. Tried a few times to check it, but Oreo won’t have it. I know I need to keep an eye on it, but I just feel so bad bothering her when she needs rest.
I am keeping an eye on where shes grooming and how close she gets to her wound area, and she hasn’t really touched it or licked at it much, but still..
Think if I leave her alone a day or two her incisions will be okay? And am I doing the right things so far with caring for her?
