Noticed a funny smell all evening and then noticed brown on Fidget’s bum when he was flopped on the floor in front of the TV… Had to get him in a towel and wash him, and snip off some of the bits stuck in his fur! Poor baby. He was very good. He normally hates being picked up and is a terror to hold even in a burrito, but he just laid there.

Any ideas what could cause that?

We’ll be going back to the vet for sure tomorrow.

Poop balls like that are sometimes caused by eating too many pellets and not enough hay. Is his diet off at all?

Well, A picture would help. It’s possible you simply saw a cecotrope before he ate it.

He’s very limited on pellets, less than a handful a day. Mostly veggies and hay.

And not really, he was off his food a bit the other week but was back to his normal self a few hours later.

Nope, it’d been there for a while as it had got lots of fluff, hay and other bits stuck to it.

And it was the size of a duck egg (maybe slightly bigger), which for him is absolutely huge.

My Blossom gets that constantly… I have had her to the vet and the only thing they can attribute it to is that she is a very highly strung bunny… I usually give her a butt bath with a gentle skin soothing wash.. Last weekend the groomer gave her a bottom trim…(Poo but on a French Angora is not a good thing)

How old is Fidget? Has he ever had his teeth checked?

A big poop blob is usually the sign that Bindi needs his molars trimmed. The fact that you say he was off his food a bit makes me think that might be the case as well.

One of mine gets them from time to time. Usually it’s because of something in his diet, like a new veggie that he tried, or a different type of pellets.

If he’s off his food, then I agree with LPT that molars could be the cause too.

Just been to the vet and poor Fidget suffered all kinds of indignities, like a thermometer up the bum.

His teeth are fine, but his guts are a bit liquidy.

The vet gave us Baytril and Kaogel to help stabilise him a bit (syringe feeding, this’ll be fun!) and we’re popping back for a checkup on Saturday.

                        Poor Bun!
