my rabbit Tenshi and my cat Jamie (the cat is now 6 months old, friendly, and has been neutered) have been living together in the house with each other. i have heard of many many instances where cats and rabbits end up becoming good friends.although i know there are no promises,i want to try it out. Tenshi has his own space away from the cat. the two seem to be calm around each other, and Tenshi is quite relaxed around the cat.(he even eats and grinds his teeth happily when the cat is around) he is no longer fidgety when the cat decides to lay beside his cage either. they seem to have tolerated each other, and dont have a problem being in the same room.

however, Tenshi being out of the cage is something i am unsure of. the rabbit often has my sisters room to hisself where he can run freely. but my little sister can be hard-headed,and leave her door open and the cat goes in.(im terrified at the thought of Tenshi and Jamie being face to face, even though i want them to be friends) nothing agressive has happened between the two,but strange things have. sometimes the cat will sit in the doorway with the rabbit, and theyll stare at each other for the longest. i make my way over, and Tenshi quickly hops away. other times theyll chase each other-but it doesnt seem aggressive. the rabbit does light casual hops and the cat lightly runs after him. I dont know whats going on,so i seperate them.(especially when the cat gets so close to Tenshi, and im afraid Tenshi will bite him!) Tenshi seems to be the dominant one between them, and from what i can tell, nothing aggresive ever really happens.they could very well be playing, but the cat is still naive, and rabbits are hard to read, so i dont know if their encounters are as they seem. for all i know, Tenshi could seriously be chasing the cat,and the cat is just too young to notice. but beyond a little ‘urf’ noise between them, i have no idea what is going on. is there a safe way i can observe their behavior around each other?

Cats and rabbits can live quite happily together (mine do!) Mine is an indoor / outdoor cat who has caught her share of mice, Chipmunks, snakes and yes, unfortunately, a wild rabbit or two, and she was 8 yrs old when I brought home our first baby bun and she has NEVER laid a paw on him!
I think if they are raised together with close supervision, you can have a happy duo. Just make it clear to each of them that you won’t tolerate anybody chasing or hurting the other. They’re pretty smart, they catch on fast.

My dog chases my big bun sometimes and I call to him and he stops. The rabbit just snorts at him and won’t tolerate his antics. It’s pretty funny because my dog thinks anything outside of the family is a threat to National Security and must be attacked, but he’s learned the rabbits that have joined the family, as well as the G. pig are just that…a part of the family and he just watches them, then looks at me as if asking if it’s OK whatever the rabbit is doing at that moment. But I still would be afraid of them being alone together if I was totally out of the house for an extended time

lol MB, that’s so cute that your dog looks at you for confirmation that the bunny isn’t misbehaving. My dogs are also ok with any animal in the house but anything outside is fair game haha.
I don’t have much input on this but I’ve definitely seen cat/rabbit pairs, just supervise it & like CheriB said, make sure they know chasing isn’t allowed
I’d love to let my buns be friends with the dogs & though my dogs won’t intentionally hurt them, they are big & play much too rough for fragile bunnies heh.

My boy Henry ‘owns’ the dogs in our house! LOL! Henry is the troublemaker NOT the dog’s. When Henry becomes to much for them, we may get a rare growl, but they mostly go outside through the doggy door to get away from HIM! ha ha ha….

Just the ‘EARLY’ morning before last – I woke up to Henry having a party on my bed and all three dog’s were on the edge of the bed next to me to get/keep away from him! I can laugh now – but I wasn’t that morning. Dam bunny!
