So I am taking my rabbit to see an eye specialist. This is about and hour and half drive. I have never traveled with her in the car for that length of time. Was trying to get some ideas best way to travel  and take food and water and litter box if she has to use bathroom.

When I take my boys to the vet, which has taken between a half hour and 2 hours, depending on traffic, I put some hay in the carrier. I’ve never put water in it but after the day that took 2 hours, I did ask the vet for water for the one that had just made the trip. He never went near it.

As for litter, my carrier has a washable pad at the bottom that usually has to be washed after the trip. Not sure what type of carrier you have but you could probably put some newspaper down, throw in some hay and be all set.

Also, neither of my rabbits seem to eat much hay while driving, so don’t worry if that’s the case with your guy, but I have seen them both eat while we are in the waiting room.

You shouldn’t have to do much. Just line the carrier with a absorbent cloth, then add hay. Don’t worry about water for this short trip, but you can give them some wet veggies for extra moisture, but it’s likely they won’t eat them anyway.

I’ve taken rabbits as far as 700 miles (taking two to a new home) and even for that 12 hour trip, all I did was put urine absorbing padding in the carrier and hay then gave them damp leaf lettuce to nibble if they needed water. I kept extra leaves in a cooler since it was an all day ride. For your short trip, padding, hay and just a little damp greens would be fine.

Water bottles drip from the vibration of the car, bowls spill and slosh out and, you really don’t want anything in there that could slide around and hurt your rabbit if you have to make a sudden stop or sharp turn.

I wouldn’t bother with food, water, or litter box – that’s a pretty short trip. Even for 8 hour long trips I just line the carrier with something absorbent (usually newspaper with fleece blanket on top) and that’s it. I have tried giving them hay or lettuce but they typically don’t eat anything anyway.
