Stickers was eating her salad this morning and after she finished a piece of romaine (I just gave them a few leaves of romaine today, since we’re running low and they like the “big salad” for their dinner) she made a squeaking noise. I turned around to look at her and she was sticking her tongue out and making a gagging motion with a sneezy squeak. She did it three times, then I went to look at her and she ran away from me and stopped and hasn’t done it again. I’ve never seen them gag before, is that something buns do sometimes like a human having something go down the wrong way? Or is that a symptom of something she needs looked at?

If it’s never happened before, I’m guessing she just got something stuck in her throat.

It sounds similar to something Bindi did a couple of times, almost giving me a heart attack. He was eating pellets and started doing this open-mouthed gag with drool coming out. He kept running away from me and doing it. After a couple of minutes it stopped and he was fine. I concluded it’s because he eats his pellets in a mad panic and they were getting stuck in his throat. Very scary, I thought he was choking. Now he only gets wet pellets.

It is scary, I thought she was choking. She’s all loafed up sleeping now and I gave her pellets to make sure she’s still eating and not having any pain – so she seems OK. I don’t like it when they do that sort of stuff! Sends me into over protective mommy mode. She does eat like a little pig, they steal food out of each others mouths so they end up woofing it down to try to keep it from the other one ( even if it’s the SAME EXACT FOOD as is on the plate )

I always worry about Lulu doing that when I give her some pellets. Since she gets them as more of a treat she goes crazy over them like she was starving, and I worry she will eat them too fast

I’ve heard of rabbits choking, so have become paranoid of that as well! One more thing to worry about!!

Yup Saw the Heimlich I think there was something else they were recommending too, but now I can’t remember. Don’t think I’d be able to swing my Gus around too easily. I’ll have to look up what that other procedure was, now that you’re reminding me. Thanks
