Okay, I had Romeo for like 5 yrs and half. He’s 6 yrs old right now. I noticed this month he started to have poopy butt.. too often..

I feed his food exactly same thing for YEARS! I mean YEARS!

1/8 cup of pellets a day.

2 cups of veggies a day (4 cups – share with other rabbit)

I only gave Romeo a fruit like once a month or so but I didn’t give him fruit in 2014 yet.

The treat I gave him is oat pellet from BB. I only give him one or two a day. Some days he don’t‘ want to eat it.

Belle aka other rabbit, ate same thing as Romeo did. She’s doing fine. So far in my life, SHE NEVER had poopy butt. NEVER.. She’s only five yrs old now.

Last night I was up till 3 am, Romeo was eating hay for good 3 hours straight. Of course, he drank some water too.

I gave him bluegrass hay, Orchard grass hay, Timothy grass hay. Nothing wrong with that..

        But what’s going on?

Well, it could be a number of things – could be a dental problem – could be arthritis (unable to eat his cecals) – having a vet examine him would be a good idea.

Not sure about arthritis because he was moving around without having a problem. Also I saw him eating his cecotropes like a day ago.

While I was waiting someone to reply this topic, I cleaned up rabbits’ cage. I noticed there are several bigger soft poops. I have no idea what’s that. That don’t looks like cecotropes at all. Not even close. Just normal around poops but bigger and softer.

I think he overeating a certain food, Radichchio.

Lately, Radichchio is his favorite food so he tried to eat all of it before Belle.

              Is this part of factor?

I just watched a video on geriatric bunnies (see my post in the lounge) and he was saying that a rabbit could eat well for years, but they get more fragile and hidden genetic disorders can start to appear after age 5. So, he might be a bit more frail in his GI tract at the moment. He also said that Orchard Grass is much richer than the other hays, so I might try cutting it out for now. Oat Hay is the least rich, followed by TImothy. It might be good to do Timmy only for a few days.

You can have him checked by your vet if it persists. Maybe save a sample of the poos to bring with you in case vet needs a specimen.

I also think maybe the radicchio could be in part responsible. Sudden over-eating of lettuce could upset the tummy. Timmy hay as Pam says is likely to be good for his stomach. And maybe only give very little radicchio for a period of time.

Romeo is having appointment with vet tomorrow morning.

I went to pet store (pet store that don’t sell real life pets) to get 4 oxbow package of oat hay.

Right now, he’s eating oat hay.

If he is doing fine so far, then I’m still taking him for yearly check up anyway.

Hello, Nobody! Haven’t seen you in awhile! I hope you’re doing well.

I’m sorry Romeo isn’t 100% right now. I’m really not sure about this. It might be the radicchio so maybe try scaling back to more basic “boring” greens and see what he can handle. I think a vet checkup is a good idea too.

Let us know how everything goes!

Went to vet today, Romeo is fine and still healthy.

All she can suggest is to reduce amount of veggies if poos are soft or poopy bottom. Then slowly intro to increase amount of veggies to same amount as I was feeding him.

She can’t find anything problems with him but gave me second option was to do lab work on him which cost 150 dollars to see internal organs. I told her that I’ll come again for lab work if Romeo isn’t improving at all. She agreed too because she think all I need to do is to adjust diet little bit that’s all. (just reduced amount of veggies)

Right now Romeo is fine, He didn’t have poopy bottom anymore since two days ago.

But I’ll keep eyes on him.
