        Hi,

So I have been using the same food for my rabbit since I got him. He is 4-5 months old and they said when he is older they can not have alfalfa hay.I looked at the ingredients in the food and it says there is concentrated alfalfa meal in it as the second ingredient. It also says that it is adult rabbit food. Do you think I can keep feeding him that after 7 months?? If you want too I can give you the brand of the food.

        Thanks

What is the brand? Once he is around 6 mo-1 yr you are going to give him a food that is timmy hay based, such as oxbow essentials adult. It should be fine until 7 mo. What is the first ingredient?

The name is Nutrena Rabbit Chow. Sorry it is actually the first ingredient and it is dehydrated. Here are the ingredients:

            1.Dehydrated alfalfa meal
            2.Wheat Middlings
            3. Active Dry Yeast
            4.Sunflower meal
5.Wheat red dog( I don’t know is they are two different things because there is no comma in between)
            6. Then they showed a list of vitamins in it.
The Pet store said I could use this all his life. If I change his food how slowly should I change it??

Which Nutrena line is it? It’s not just about ingredients it’s about the guaranteed analysis. I can only find 3 different versions of rabbit food from Nutrena and none of of them look very good for an adult bunny unfortunately.

Some good pellet brands/lines for rabbits are:
Oxbow Essentials Adult, Oxbow BeneTera, Kaytee Timothy Complete Adult, Kaytee Forti-Diet Pro Health Adult, Sweet Meadow Timothy Pellets, Zupreem Timothy Naturals, and Zupreem Nature’s Promise.

These fall a little outside of the recommendations but are still good:
Oxbow Natural Science, American Pet Diner Timmy Rabbit, Purina Fiber3 Rabbit Chow, and Sherwood Maintenance.

(Note these are very specific lines. For example “Kaytee Fort Diet” is not good but “Kaytee Forti Diet Pro Health” is good).

Which one do you think is the best?? What food do you feed your rabbit? When I give him the food how fast should I change?

Mine get Oxbow Adult. When you make the switch, I would mix the food for 2 weeks or more. Start with 3/4 old and 1/4 new, then gradually work your way to 1/4 old and 3/4 new. That way you can finish off the last bag of old food before giving her 100% new.

I feed Oxbow Adult Rabbit but any of the ones I mentioned above would be fine.

Switching over you want to do:
Week One: 1/4 new food, 3/4 old food
Week Two: 1/2 new food, 1/2 old food
Week Three: 3/4 new food, 1/4 old food
                    Week Four: All new food.

                        Well, I buy it 50lbs at a time because I have 5 rabbits but I think it’s something like $14-16 for a 10lb bag. I spend $60-62 on 50lbs.

Yeah, MoveDiagonally has a zoo. Lol! 😛

I use Oxbow Adult as well. You will find the best prices online. Petsmart sells this food, but it is easily twice the price as online.

It’s $15 at Petsmart for a small bag (5lb) and $23 for the big bag (10lb). My local feed store has it for $11 and $18. They also have a 25lb, but I forget how much that is. I only have 2 rabbits so I don’t buy that much at a time. I do like buying it at the store though because they have punch cards for a free bag.
