  Our 7 month old holland lop was spayed on Friday, 2/14. I am worried because she has hardly eaten at all, a few nibbles of green pepper and nothing more. She has taken a few sips of water here and there but not much. Is this normal or should I be concerned?
  
  She looks so sad and I am very worried.

  Welcome to BB… Sorry to hear your girl isn’t bouncing back quickly.
  
  Have you offered her leafy greens or herbs? Parsley is great bc it’s so fragrant, that’s what I usually recommend first.
  
  Were you given pain meds to administer at home? If she’s in too much pain, she may not want to eat. The injection they give at the vet after the surgery only lasts for about 24 hours.

  Also, did your vet give you a way to contact them over the weekend, or recommend an ER vet in case of emergency?
  
  (I don’t like doing these types of surgeries/procedures on a Thursday/Friday bc of there are problems, they crop up over the weekend…)

  We did not get pain meds to give her at home, I read a lot about this and found a lot of conflicting information so I didn’t specifically request them. Since I posted, she did nibble on some pellets and on an apple, she also took a few laps of water. I will be sending my husband out for parsley and cilantro (cilantro is her favorite). I just don’t know what normal is and can’t stop worrying. I haven’t slept all weekend
  
  You bring up a good point about Friday surgery, she was originally scheduled for Wednesday but had to be rescheduled due to bad weather. Haven’t the procedure done before the weekend did not occur to me. The vet did not give me an emergency vet to contact but I know that they take call over the weekend – should I call them?
  
  I just don’t know what to do. She usually loves to cuddle and just watns to be left alone. She is in a corner of her cage and if I go over she just stares at the side of the cage.

  It’s your decision if you want to call today… That’s good she’s nibbling on something, and maybe her fav cilantro will perk her up.

  She had a bit of cilantro. I did call the vet, he said that has long as she is nibbling and pooping she should be fine. He asked that I call him tomorrow with an update.

  It’s pretty normal for buns to take a few days to feel like themselves after a spay. My Olivia was so bad the night we brought her home, I seriously thought she was going to die. And that was with pain meds. But after a few days she was completely back to normal.

  I offered my male rabbit mainly herbs because I read they like the scented stuff, so I had lots of cilantro and parsley on hand. and I would put the hay in front of him because he acted like his world ended and wouldn’t get up lol. but, after a day like that he started moving around a bit in his cage, and then the next day wanted some exercise out of his pen….I’ve read spays are more intense surgery, so I’d give it another day of resting until I even worried. I’m sure she’s fine!

  Great news, Bella is up and around this morning. She ate all of her veggies and pellets overnight. I can tell that she is looking for more food this morning but I really want her to eat her hay so I am going to hold off for a few hours. She even wanted to be picked up and cuddled! I am quite relieved, as is my 9 year old daughter

  I would keep giving her whatever she wants for the next couple days… Lots of fresh food if she prefers that!

  I just looked at her wound and it appears that she tore off one of her stitches, it’s a bit bloody and looks like there is a bit of discharge. I am waiting for a call back from the vet. Has anyone ever experienced this? Will they have to anesthetize her to put in the stich?

  If the discharge is like yellowy/clear-ish, they probably will just get you to watch it. If it’s actively bleeding, they could add a drop of glue to close it up, but usually they’d leave it alone as long as the bun isn’t actively messing with it.
