  My parents bought a beach house in Cayucos, CA (about 3 hours from Fresno, 2 if I drive) and wanted me to come enjoy the time with them. So I told them I would as soon as I find a “babysitter” for Cinder. I asked my friends to no avail, and finally resorted to calling my ex because she has one, and knows more about the care of said animals than I do. I wouldn’t resort to calling her but she was the last hope before I cancelled the trip. She said she would, so I thanked her and went out of town. Upon coming back, I saw her at our job (we both worked at a pizza place at the time), and thanked her again for looking after my girl. She told me she never went by, and didn’t get a hold of me. How could someone be so evil as to not look after a pet , or at least call to let them know they aren’t available after all? It was Thanksgiving weekend, and her parents “forbade it”, citing the crazy drivers we have here. If she couldn’t make it, I’d rather she have called me so I can find someone else or head home. My poor Cinder made it about two days without food before I got home to give her food and attention. I’m so glad Cinder didn’t pass on to Rainbow Bridge, else I would have had a LONG talk with her, and probably would have wanted to take over taking care of her rabbit. I just still can’t believe it after all this time.

  Next time, if you can’t find right rabbit-sitter for your rabbit then don’t bother to go at all.. not even any vacation.
  
  I rarely go out for vacation because no one around here know how to take care of rabbits. I have to drive 5 hours to my parents’ house to drop my rabbits. My parents know how to take care of them because I taught them.

  WOW! What to say????? I can see why she is your EX! I’m with you JPetrucci84 – can’t believe ‘she’ or ‘anyone’ would do that? We (hubby and I) quite simply don’t take holidays – don’t trust anyone with our precious Henry and his gang (dog’s). I’m in no way suggesting you not take holiday’s lol…. Just saying that’s why we don’t. As hubby say’s, we would just worry the whole time we are away, and what’s the fun in that? So happy to know your Cinder’s made it through – poor girl. And you learnt – don’t ever ask an EX for anything! ha ha ha…..

  I thought about it, but was just apprehensive about the area, especially not knowing where a good vet ER is for small animals, being around a beach and dogs, as well as family and KIDS who would be around her 24/7. I just thought it might be a bit much to take on at one time for her.

  Gosh how could anyone be so cruel. That would have been on my concious the whole time if I were her. I would have snuck out to take care of Cinder if necessary. Which I think was a lie anyway,
  
  I don’t go places like and Henry said I would just worry the whole time anyways. Thats just me. Cotton isn’t welcome at the relatives of my husband so I don’t go.

  My neighbor took care of Cotton when I was away a week. I came back he was skinny. The lady told me she fed him as I instructed and she cleaned the litterboxes and vacuumed. That cotton ate good he went right to the food. I figure I told her the wrong amount of hay is why he was skinny. HE gave me the bunny butt for 3 days. lol
  
  I am sure she fed him if she cleaned the litterboxes and vacuumed.
  
  But to do that to any pet just not go to feed them at all. Grrrrrrrr. I would want to strangle someone.

  I’m so glad your bunny is okay! That’s so awful. Especially since she has her own rabbit.

  I still can’t believe how she made it, being as everything I’ve read says they can last a day MAYBE two if I’m lucky and the GI stasis doesn’t really do the damage.

  When I’ve gone away for the weekend, even tho I know someone is coming, I always give a ton of hay, probably 2-3 times what would normally be in the pen. Recently, I’ve started stuffing a cardboard tissue box with hay as well as the hay rack. Just a thought…

  She didnt even try contact you? I think I’d have a hard time getting over being angry tbh. I’d still want to have that LONG talk too! It’s just so thoughtless she put your rabbit at risk like that.

  Yes, this would give more peace of mind. That way, if for some reason someone wasnt able to check in on a rabbit, they’d at least have the basics. I’d set out 2 bowls of water and possibly a sipper bottle aswell.
  
  I suppose a rabbit might resort to eating litter or their own fecal droppings if there was zero food. It’d be enough fibre to keep the gut going but no real nutrition obviously.
  Really glad to read Cinders is ok.

  Oh yes, I’m surprised she didn’t start gnawing on her pen! I had someone feed her on my way home, though. I thankfully have a great neighbor who went over and gave her some hay. She was very glad to see me and I don’t remember getting the bunny butt as one mentioned, haha.

  Nope. She alleges that she wrote my number down on a piece of paper, then burned it some time later. I didn’t get too much information because it was only making my Hungarian temper worse.
  
  And if she got away with a long “talk”, she would have been lucky. I would have loved to throw her into a close cage and not feed her for two days and see how SHE likes it. I always figured she was a witch. It took this to really figure it out.
