Help! I shut my bunny's head in the door!

  I am in tears right now.
  
  I was taking the laudry out and Ethel was napping in her cage.
  
  As i walked through the door and went to shut it behind me it got caught on something. I looked down and Ethel had followed me and I had just trapped her head between the door and the doorframe).
  
  I immediately gave her a cuddle. She looked a bit shocked and I burst into tears. She then hopped off and went into her litter box. She looks a little dazed (but she had just woken up?). My partner gave her a treat and she stretched her neck to reach for it and didn’t seem in pain. She’s now sleeping again.
  
  I wasn’t angry or anything so I was only closing the door gently. I hope that it felt like I jammed her head harder than I did.
  
  I can’t believe I did this! I feel so terrible. She was so so quiet getting up, i usually hear her scampering on my wooden floors.
  
  I feel terrible.
  
  Will she be okay? Would I have noticed if i had done any damager, would she be walking badly etc.
  
  Has anyone else ever done this? I cannot stop crying. I seem more upset about than she does.

  Oh no – it’s hard to know. You need to monitor her to see how she is doing and if she doesn’t seem right then you should take her to the vet.

  Oh I can just imagine how you feel!! I think something very similar happened a while back-I believe someone stepped on or kicked their rabbit by accident. All was well.
  I hope she learns doorways aren’t for hanging around in!
  
  Your two options are race to the vet and spend money when you don’t necessarily have to, or wait and monitor-I would watch for any symptoms of anything really-not interested in food, water, pee/poop, wakefulness (that’s it’s normal-i.e. is she passed out while a lot of action is going on that she would normally be awake for), just any change really. I’d be willing to bet that all will be fine, but just keep a very close eye. Also if your going to be away for a significant amount of time, enlist a family member or friend to keep an eye. If anything is ‘up’ take her in strait away. If you don’t have a vet, start looking so you aren’t looking later in a panic
  
  And don’t blame yourself -things happen!!

  I think Ethel is feeling much better now. Initially she was just quiet in her cage where she would normally be racing around binkying. My poor partner was trying to cook me a valentines meal but I was too busy watching Ethel and crying.
  
  Anyway, about 2 hours ago she just got up, raced across the room and binkied, then she jumped up on the sofa with me and begged for treats (of which she had LOADS). She’s been a happy little girl since then and I had to really plead with her back in the cage when I wanted to go to bed. She is using the litter tray and eating like a piglet.
  
  I will keep monitoring her for the next few days but I hope that she will be fine.
  
  I was so scared! I can’t believe how much I love that little girl!

  p.s. She is registered with a good vet and I will take her straight down there if she is showing any further signs of not being herself.

  I’m so glad to hear she seems to be doing fine! I’d be acting just like you if something like that had happend to me, and don’t feel too bad! I think we’ve all accidentally done something to our bunnies but the nice thing about them is that sure they may be upset for abit, but then they go back to normal and want some lovins bunnies are sometimes tougher than we are I think.

  That’s scary. I am hoping she is better and acting normally today. How is she? If she seems off at all, lethargic or moving a bit funny, then I think by now you would want to get her seen by a vet. Otherwise, she is probably fine.

  Thank you everyone. She seems herself today, acting normally and jumping about. I think she had a little bit of a shock.
  
  She is a very boisterous little thing, you would think that she had learned but nope…running under my feet again today as I was leaving the room. Luckily though, I have learned, and will never ever close that door again without checking where she is first.
