        Hi,

So we took are rabbit to the vet two weeks ago and then he was probably around 3 1/2 months old. We thought it was a girl but they said it was a boy. Now he is 4 months old and we are now thinking that it is a girl how do you tell

Why are you thinking it’s a girl if the vet thought it was a boy?

Those would be anal glands. Little pockets that sometimes need to be gently cleaned out as they can get a bit stinky….
At 4 mths you would expect to see testicles or atleast the spot where the testicles are coming in which will be two pink patches either side of the private bits. Sometimes they can be close to the bits or sometimes they can be slightly out and up a centimeter or so….

Yep, boys carry their family jewels forward. So you are going to look in front/above of his privates, rather than behind/below. No testicles does not guarantee it is a girl. This is because boys can hide them or they haven’t descended yet/like they were supposed to. But having some very obvious bits there, well then you definitely don’t have a girl.

Porky pulls his testicles in very tightly so they are practically invisible at the vet. I think he was listening to closely when the vet brought up neutering.

It is so hard to tell! Our bunny club has been fostering the accidental offspring of a surrendered doe – a double pregnancy with a total of 9 surviving bunnies (8 now, as one sadly didn’t make it through his surgery). Anyway, several vets and several laypersons with bunny experience, myself included, mis-sexed several of the babies – and I think maybe more than once – we’ve just about all lost track.

With bucks, it’s really obvious when the jewels are fully in place, you can’t miss ’em. But as others have said, if they are hiding them they can convince you they’re girls. The main parts can look so ambiguous in baby bunnies. I thought for sure I knew but I guessed wrong on several of these bunlets.
