Wow! My starving Gracie, who should be on all hay with her tummy, just got offered a treat from my first order off BB. She hadn’t been thrilled with the critter croutons at first, but now she likes them. Just opened a bag of barley heart-shaped treats and she munched two of them right down!  I hope barley agrees with her! I’ve wondered about the dry willow, but so many people have mentioned stasis that I’m afraid to try it when there are so many other choices. However, she is on a very restricted diet at the moment and anything to encourage her to eat something dry is welcome. Life would be so much easier if they could just eat alfalfa all the time.

Barley is a very good food, so those treats are pretty healthy. Alfalfa is best completely out of their diet as soon as possible.
I get the barley hearts for Sammy, too. If you want to make it seem like more, but not be too many treats (just to get her interest in eating back) you can break them in half and give her a piece of one and the other piece later on.

I know I shouldn’t give her alfalfa but I have a small bag that I can’t bring myself to throw out largely because she eats it up and she’s so hungry. Got my hand near her today and she thought I had a treat and she bit me. Or it’s hormones, but I’m pretty sure she wouldn’t survive anesthesia and surgery at this point.
Thanks I’ll try and space out the barley treats. Glad to hear they are healthy. I just ordered them out of desperation. I offer her all kinds of hay… And I guess she eats some. She’s so little it’s hard to know for sure so I’m monitoring her weight

My bun loves the barley cookies!

Is the willow you’re referring to the dried willow wreaths that BB sells? Those are another favorite here. I break them apart and give a little bit at a time as a treat.

Ok I’ll try the willow w/ my next order cuz the barley treats & critter croutons are popular. Good thing I’m working full time this year since I’ve been working on better diets for the buns. $$ cha Ching!
