I have a 10 week old male bunny who has pink eyelids and yellow dried crust near where I assume the tear duct might be. This is in both eyes which leads me to believe that its pink eye rather than something stuck in the tear duct or in the lid. I have wiped his eyes with a saline and chamomile solution and worked most of the crust off twice within 12 hours and am unsure whether there is progress or not. If his symptoms don’t show progress within the next day and a half I plan on taking him to the vet but wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions for home treatments other than what I’m already implementing.
The second thing is he is overproducing a lot of cecal poop. I check on his butt every couple hours that way I can get it off before it hardens so I don’t have to soak his butt. He seemed to produce about half as much today (I think around 8 poos) than he did yesterday so I hope whatever imbalance he had is on the way to fixing itself but I also wanted to check for recommendations. A lot of bunny info is very specified to baby bunnies and adult bunnies and not much is solid on this in-between point right before puberty. I’m not positive how much alfalfa hay I’m supposed to give him compared to timothy at this point and am not sure if I should just stop with pellets until he stops producing so much cecal because I wouldn’t want any dietary restrictions to be hindering any vital nutrients he needs for growth. Also I’m aware that since he’s so young any digestive issues he’s having right now can be pretty detrimental so if it doesn’t seem to be getting better I’d definitely make an appointment but I wanted to get input from some more experienced folks.
Also on another note when is it best to get them neutered?
