All of my buns have cat litter trays lined with newspaper and filled with hay…Any thing else and they delight in spraying in the length and bredth of the room… Nermal has a smaller corner tray with a grid in her cage so she still has a little clay litter in the bottom for absorbancy but the big litter tray with paper and hay in her play pen.

Hey Sam! I always use newspaper in a cat litter tray topped with shredded paper (always shred our mail before throwing it out – now it’s doubly secure, who wants to touch/sort through paper soaked in bunny wee?) so always have plenty on hand. I didn’t know any better about litter till I became a BBer and even though I have read about all these wonderful products like the one your using – I decided not to upset the apple cart as Henry is perfectly toilet trained and worry if I introduce anything else, well… lets just say I don’t want to give Henry any excuse not to use his litter tray?!?! Also, it costs us nothing (BONUS!). I just thought I’d mention what I do as you said you had run out till tomorrow – maybe this will get you through till then?
Poor Alfie, no litter – a bit like us going to the toilet and only finding ONE square left on the roll? Ha ha ha ha – DOH!

I use Yesterday’s News and I really like it, it’s on the pricier side though.

I use Carefresh myself. I have small rabbits so for me it works well. The ultra kind works the best I get that when I can. I am not sure how much litter you use at once but I don’t use a lot and a 60 littler container lasts me around 2 months. I have found that it is the cheapest at Tractor Supply store; if you have one in your area you could get it there a lot cheaper than pet stores.

I use Oxbow Eco Straw in one litter box and Aspen Supreme litter in another litter box. Both are pelleted litters and both are rather pricy.

If you have room to store large bags (40 – 50 pounds) you can get wood stove pellets (plain, no accelerants) or horse stall pellets for really cheap.

Yesterday’s News

I use this kind that smells great and they love to eat (and yes it’s safe ). Its from the brand Kaytee, it’s Soft Granule Blend with real lavender pieces. Actually smells great and you can scoop it like cat litter and you don’t have to empty it out every time you clean. I like it

I use wood stove pellets-they are probably the cheapest thing to use and work great-very absorbent, no smell and hey-I can use them in my wood stove too!

I use eco toilet paper. it’s about $3-5 for 12 rolls and I just make a fluffy layer covering the bottom of the litter tray-just got a cat tray and made a door for her in it. And then I cover up any wee spots so she doesn’t have to sit in it, and I change it every morning. It never smells, no dusty particles, and its pretty convenient to clean up…I tried care fresh and litter and hay and she just kicked it all everywhere and it would get stuck in the hutch wires

Care fresh was okay though, better than other litter I tried. You could give it a go if you’re thinking of trying it. may be the one for you. It was nice and soft, but yeah the little pieces were messy, I found its pretty expensive for me in Australia at around $17 a small packet, it didn’t last that long, and also it did not do much for the smell. 

I used to use carefresh only (with timothy hay all over the top), but I found my perfect solution. I use yesterday’s news as a bottom layer to soak up all pee (doesn’t ever smell bad), then a layer of carefresh, topped with timothy hay. I can easily go a few days (3-6) without any smell at all, even if you put your face up close, I just put a fresh layer of timothy every day and Barnaby loves it.

My favorite is Yesterday’s News for odor control, but I often use Carefresh to save money. Lining the box with glossy newspaper ads helps protect the box too.

I use Newspapers in the litter box and I use Biocatalet (Cat Litter) on top. They usually sleep in it though When they’re not sleeping in it, they are digging it all out

I line the boxes with newspaper then put a layer of Yesterday’s News on top and then a thin layer of hay.

Rabbit007, do you mean actual cat litter? Cat litter kicks up dust which is bad for your rabbit’s lungs.

I use wood stove pellets. They’re cheap and work well.

I used to use Yesterday’s News and really liked it, but the wood stove pellets were so much cheaper and work just as well.

I tried carefresh for my gerbils and found it very dusty, but I never tried it with the rabbits.

I use newspaper, then pine pellets, then loads of hay.

We use Carefresh, we love it because there’s no smell whatsoever.
