  More details. The mother was about 2 years old and she had plenty of water and hay. She was in a separate area for the night because you could tell she was starting to get annoyed by the children trying to feed from her. This was normal as her feeding time for them was between 10-11 pm and we were always lucky enough to witness it since we’re all really close with our rabbits. However, I woke up this morning and found she had passed and I was really distraught about the whole thing. I will be going to the vet tomorrow to see about what could have been the cause. The children however, are my pressing concern right now. I’ve read that 4-6 weeks is the age for weaning and I suppose at this point I really have no choice. They have been nibbling at hay, pellets, and water on their own for a couple of days now and this is what I’m providing. But is there anything else I should be feeding them, or more of something else and less of something else? They’re all together huddled in their own caged area looking about normal as the day before.

  You may want to try giving them colostrum. It’s what mammal milk provides and is crucial to developing a strong, healthy immunity. You can find it at local health food stores in powder or capsule form. It’s taken from cows milk, but they also make some with goat milk. Either is fine. I use one by a brand called Symbiotics.

  Not too many people are going to be able to offer advice for this. Intentional breeding is a prohibited topic but a few members have experience with baby bunnies.
  
  I’m sorry for the loss of your bunny though. =( Hopefully the babies will be okay since they are 4 weeks old now.

  I would find some pellets specifically formulated for babies as this will help. One of the most important things at this age is Mummies cecals to help develope gut flora.
  That said I got my Pepper and Piglet at that age as orphans and they were fine with solid food and a supplement pellet for young buns, they have the intestinal fortitude of feral goats. However a probiotic supplement would not hurt..
  
  Check out the House Rabbit Society pages as they have some very good articles on dealing with orphaned buns.
  
  I would also speak to your vet as well in case the cause of death was a bacterial infection which could be carried by the babies and affect them and infect others later on.

  • Accidental Litters: We do not have the experience to advise you, and we discourage ongoing threads on the matter because the information then goes out to google search results, inviting more of the same. Only a couple of members have some experience with this, but we are unable to make sure the advice given is reliable; we are not a site or forum that has a wealth of experience in this matter and it would be better for your bunnies to find reliable resources for pregnant/nursing does and their babies. Please visit Resources and scroll to “Oops Surprise Litter”. Other forums like Rabbitsonline.net, that cater to a broader range of experience, may also be able to help. And of course, be sure to seek vet care and advice. Do not post pictures of the litters, unless you plan on keeping them.(or whichever one or so you plan to keep). Do not use the forum to give or sell bunnies as well.
  
  I hope your vet is able to help your bubs and I wish you and them lots of luck.
