Help, please!!!  My male Lionhead bunny, named Bunnae, needs a new plant to replace my 8′ live Christmas tree.  It’s been his favorite hang-out since Christmas!  It breaks my heart to think how sad he would be when I throw the tree out.  I’d like a replacement plant that he could hang-out under, and would be safe for ingestion.  I’m giving myself till the end of this month to throw the tree out, so I need to find this replacement…like quick!  Any suggestions?

My girls loved hanging out under the tree too. I didn’t think of getting them a permanent one though, I think no matter how big it was they’d be in the potting soil.

Thanks!  I’ll keep that in mind!  I think I’ll have the pot at least a foot high and put moss or something around the soil.

I cannot think of any indoor plants that are bunny safe… Most are toxic to rabbits…. I work in a wholesale nursery though so I will have a look about… At the moment the only thing I could recommend would be to have two or three parlour palms and rotate them… They do not survive permanently indoors…. Ficus or Lillipilli can drop fruit that would not be good for bunnies and spathaphillum and other broad leaf plants are a definite NONO…

What a shame you can’t grow a banana or a mulberry/raspberry tree indoors?!?!?
Anyhow, the only thing I can think of is one of those tall indoor pots that you grow herbs out of from the side pockets/openings (so no or not much soil/potting mix exposed) – did my description make sense? Sorry, I’m not sure how else to describe it? (frazzled face!).
Then you can plant bunny safe herbs that will spill over and become lush . As I am writing this, I just realised bunny (Bunnae) would then have the opportunity to over indulge? and the herbs would have no chance to flourish and get lush – doh! Silly me! I was just about to erase my post but thought maybe you could use that for a time through the day, and swap it for something he may not chew on (but still bunny safe) and that would also give both plants the chance to get a bit of sun each day as you swap them over? Sorry if this is a super silly idea – I thought it was great when I first started typing?????

Thank you, Roberta!  I forgot to mention where I live!  I am on the tropical island of Guam in the Pacific.  Definitely, palms would be a choice!    I can do zone 9-11 plants.  More and more plant types from lower zones are found to thrive on Guam, which I am glad!

Oh, so funny!  I am glad you did not delete anything!    Well…if I buy a potted banana tree…hmmm!    I could, but it wouldn’t last, and it would be too big!  Did you see where I am located?  Mentioned it just now…Guam in the Pacific, so tropical plants; zone 9-11, and more botanists and plant nurseries are trying out more plants, and finding they could live here.  Just depends on where we put them.  I like the idea of herbs; maybe they could be mixed in with other plants.  I know the pot you’re talking about.  They are strawberry pots.  If I do that, I could have two, and change it out.

Thanks for the ideas!  Keep it coming, Folks!  I am new here, and will share pictures of Bunnae soon.  Thanks, again!

Do you get a lot of sun in that room? You could try a rosemary plant. Some varieties get get quite tree-like.

Yes, I do!  Sounds great, thanks!  I will google, and try to find the variety you’re talking about.  That would be great for the top of the strawberry pot!

It’s not a plant but my bunny loves hanging out in her multi-level cat tree. She can jump to any level and there’s some cubby holes with hanging ornaments to play with. Just a thought
