February is almost here, which means my baby girl will be ready to come home soon! I finally have her condo (almost) complete, and seeing it here empty is making this wait even harder! How do you cope? lol A few days ago I placed my first order on here for some toys, which helped my anxiousness to get her a little.  The breeder will be giving me another update (with pictures!) sometime this week and I can’t wait to see how she’s grown. It feels like every time I see a new picture of her she’s changed so much.

One thing I was wondering about is exactly how important a “schedule” is for them. She will be fed pretty much the same times everyday (unlimited pellets and hay) but with my work and school schedules I’m a little worried her “out” time and sleeping times might be inconsistent. There are days where I am not in school or work, so she’ll have fairly normal days, but there are days I work nights and come home fairly late. Will me being up and about at strange hours disturb her too much, or will she adjust? There will be a block of time everyday for her to be out and about while supervised (at least a few hours everyday) but the times won’t always be the same. Has anyone dealt with strange schedules like this before? I’d eventually like her to be able to be out without my supervision, but while she’s still young and un-spayed she will most likely need to be supervised in her pen.

With how excited I am for her I guess it’s only natural I also be EXTRA nervous and worried! lol I hope she’ll be able to adjust to be weird work/school schedule.

Well, buns are generally most active first thing in the morning and last thing at night. Our boy, Link for example. Throughout the day, he just sits quietly , looking rather grumpy, then at about 11 in the evening, he starts wandering around and generally seeming quite happy. But it’s not normally until about 5-6am that he’s truly up and about… We hear him running laps around the bed and binkying like a loon. He hasn’t been well, so, although normally being woken up like this at 5am 7 days a week might be annoying, it really isn’t I’m just glad he’s happy!

          Unlimited pellets and hay?!…
Unlimited hay, yes, but unlimited pellets could cause some weight issues as your bun grows. He/she needs dark leafy greens like curly kale (but not too much as it’s high in calcium, but they do love kale), spinach, rocket, basil, parsley.
As far as pellets go for our three, they get a small handful with their breakfast salad (ha, we refer to them as ‘bunny croutons’) and then we have used them occasionally for training.

Our most recent rescue bun has spent most of her life in the rehoming centre with ‘unlimited pellets’ and now she has to lose 1/3 of her body weight before we can spay her.

Oh dear. I’m posting from my phone. I have no idea why it has posted seven times

            Sorry!!

Any chance a moderator could delete the additional posts?!…

I’ve removed the body of the additional posts, just so things are less cluttered.

I think somethings up with the forums right now. I had troubling replying and then getting them to load for a while. Anyway… lol

I was planning on offering unlimited pellets for the first few months. She’ll only be 8 weeks old when she comes home, so I thought it was recommended to give unlimited until about 6 months then reduce down to 1/4-1/2 cup after that. Please tell me if this is wrong, I’m still learning.

I’m sorry about your Link!! I’m sending well wishes his way and I hope he feels better soon!

If she is most active later at night and in the mornings that’s perfect. I was mostly concerned with the middle of the day. Whether it be early morning or later at night she will always have a few hours of “free play”, I was just concerned about consistency.

Aye, I’ve seen a few posts pop up with people having issues…
At my computer now though… (Urgh, I hate early starts, especially with me still having a couple of weeks until uni goes back… ha, it’s 8:30 am here)

My wife works a 9-5 job and I have uni and work from home, so our rabbits are, for the most part, left alone throughout the day. The do have a room each, all to themselves, though, which I understand a fair few people won’t be able to do, but we like to make a point of letting them be bun, out and about on their own terms!

All our buns are rescues, so, unfortunately, I might not be the best person to advise on such a young little thing… Link, I think, was approx 12 weeks old when we got him (Maybe o_O) But we gave him a similar diet to the rest, although, my wife might pop on later and disagree with me a little! Haha…

Ach, Link’s fine. he’s well into recovery and we just need to keep his environment as stress free as possible… He doesn’t like other buns anymore though, so he’s likely going to remain in our bedroom for the foreseeable future, which, to be honest, is rather nice. He’s such a cute, grumpy little chap!

Katie you’re right, she should have unlimited pellets until she’s 6 months old.

Thanks for clearing that up Tessie! I was getting confused lol

It’s 3:50am here right now…so as you can see my schedule is a bit…off. lol I will go into work in the afternoon and be home by 10 or 11pm. This isnt my everyday, but it varies. I also go to college a couple days a week, so those days are a bit more “normal”. lol

I’m hoping to eventually give her a larger play space, pretty much a whole room, but that can’t happen until after I have her fairly well litter trained so probably after her spay. I also have a cat so I’m hoping they can get along as she also frequents the space I’m considering for the bun.

Ah, fair enough. Kind of feel like we’ve missed out by not having a bun from a proper baby!

I find rabbits and cats generally get along really well. Zelda, a bun we lost last year, became very very close friends with one of our cats, they used to lie together all the time, and now, Link, we frequently find him on the bed with one or two cats!

I look forward to, and I’m sure other people on here do too, to seeing some pictures of your bun as soon as she’s home?!

I’ll definitely be flooding the forums with pictures, I’m sure! lol She’ll be ready to come home February 4th, so I’ll most likely be picking her up that following weekend.
