My rabbit recently had dental treatment, filed some teeth down as they had little sharp points and he had several ulcers – this was the 27th December.
I have since had him back at the vet for painkillers – metacam as he was refusing to eat and drink still. The painkillers lasted about 5 days. He is still on antibiotics i was told to carry on until the bottle was finished.
He is very alert, always wanting out to hop about more than he used too. The problem is when he gets out he is now wanting to chew everything…walls, stone, cardboard, wellies, clothes, blankets. He has actually been eating some of his blanket so i had to remove it.
He is refusing to eat any of his pellets, he is being really fussy and hardly touching any of his favourite treats. He isn’t eating any hay – i have bought several different kinds. He will happily eat greens as in dandelion leaves and veg, carrots, some dry grass/forage i bought from the petshop but that is all. I have bought loads of different things and have tried soaking his pellets in water to soften them but he ate one bowl and that was it.
Surely he can’t be in pain if he is happily eating things that are harder than his food – e.g. cardboard, woodwork etc?
I really am at the end of my tether I don’t know what else to do, I have spent a fortune at the vets and on food/treats and nothing seems to be working.
