So as most of you know I am waiting for a home visit to be set up so that the rescue people can come and check out Caleb’s living arrangements so we can get underway of him choosing his friend….my question is how do you wait so patiently? I know because of the holidays and new years the month has gone by fast but I hadn’t heard anything back from the rescue people in that time so I e-mailed them to ask where they were for the home visit to happen. I told them I understand why they haven’t gotten back to me and I do but waiting is SO hard. I told josh *my boyfriend of almost 4 years* that we need to start getting stuff for the second bunny (just a thing here and there every couple weeks or so). I have been tempted many times in Country Max because I can’t help myself and go to the bunny section and look to see the bunnies there. I have resisted so far and I really want to help a rescue bunny out *which has been the only thing keeping me from just buying one*. How do I wait patiently for the rescue to get back to me?
You don’t.
It is hard to be patient! The day before I was scheduled to get Roxi and Asha, I was to excited!
Mabye try cuddling your current bun? That makes everything better!
Sometimes doing the right thing is so hard because it takes so long.
I used to volunteer with a dog rescue and I was a foster home. The rescue I worked with did so much screening and took so long to place dogs. On one hand I do get it, but I do think some are so over the top. I used to have dogs with me for months while they had piles of applicants. It was sad.
It is great that you are going to get a second from a rescue! Hang in there!
Definitely check in with them! Things might be a bit slower because of the holidays.
I was lucky when I adopted. I put an application in on a Wednesday, heard back on Thursday, and was visiting bunnies on Saturday. :/
Be strong Keri!
I checked in with them they said that they were checking in with the people above them so I’ll hear back from them sometime soonish I hope. Jenn you are so lucky indeed this waiting is terrible. Also I love Caleb and he will always be my baby bunny but the reason I was looking for a second bunny besides wanting another one was so that he could have a friend because he has a stuffed bear that he grooms and puts in his hay container and other things that I think he would like some rabbit company that could respond to him.
Really? WOW? I thought you just went in, chose, paid and you were on your way? What an eye opener? So you have to have a house visit? Seriously, I’m blown away???? Admittedly, you can’t get a bunny where I live, but I assumed it would be the same as getting another pet? Are bunnies just different, or does that go for ‘all’ pets where you live?
Most rabbit rescues do require applications, etc. Shelters, breeders and pet stores often do not.
I think that’s all pets, they want to make sure the animals are going to a safe place. yea no home visit, no bunny
Both local rescues here just let pick people pick buns and leave, too. Well, you have to fill out an application and sign a contract, and the contract gives the rescue permission to visit after the fact, but I’ve never had it happen and I’ve adopted 3 times (4 rabbits.)
And the application is pretty basic, too. It’s pretty much name, address, do you promise not to eat the rabbit….
Unreal! That is so cool! As I said, where I live you can’t get bunnies, but I haven’t heard if you get a dog/cat from the RSPCA here in Australia you need to apply or have a home visit – but gee, what a great idea!!!!
Sorry, you have to wait so long kcomstoc – because of where I got Henry, I had to wait weeks too. We had to plan his collection as we had to drive (and drive and drive) to make him all ours! It was worth the wait, though at the time I did spit the dummy and said forget it, only cause I got excited and let down. So I totally get your frustration. Been there…. All the best kcomstoc.
ZS! “Promise not to eat the rabbit!”. You had me in stitches! Even though I’m an Aussie, my hubby immigrated from Spain when he was 7. He said he could ‘never’ sign that contract, ha ha hah! (jokes from him). Watch out Henry! All those kisses from my hubby – is he just tasting? Again, just jokes! Thanks for the laugh ZS!
Yea really sucks waiting, for Caleb I just went on craigslist and went and got him (he came from a breeder) though now I think about her conditions her bunnies were in they weren’t the best and I wouldn’t go there again but I’m so glad we got Caleb
don’t worry AndHenry my roommate jokes all the time about eating Caleb and he said with 2 rabbits there will be twice the meat (joking). This same roommate likes to get on the floor with Caleb and have him hop on his chest and give nose kisses. I kinda wish I lived in IA so that I could just have Caleb meet a few rabbits and bring home the one he likes the best.
oh the waiting. hopefully it wont be much longer. we know you will provide bunny with a good home. hang in there. patience can be a very hard thing.
I didn’t need a home visit, but they did come and deliver Lucky.
I did a home visit to the foster home to meet Lucky, and other houses had rabbits (but I fell in love with my bun once I saw him) it took a while though, I think I emailed the beginning of august and didn’t get him till mid september. the waiting is rough! We had to meet him, sign papers, get everything set up etc…and then made an appointment and she brought him to us, and gave me tips etc. It was actually a great experience, but all I wanted was to get my bun!
I hope you don’t have much more of a wait.
I just got an e-mail from the go between that says they will do a home visit (though the way it sounded in the e-mail made it seem like they hadn’t decided if I was worthy of one yet and then they had decided I was good enough *does that make sense?*) anyway hopefully it will be this friday
but I have a dentist app set up earlier…..it’s my day off from both jobs so I took the opportunity because I really need to see a dentist (think my wisdom teeth are coming in
) ugh….so we’ll see how this goes.
Good Luck! Just relax and show them what an awesome bun-parent you are. ![]()
You’ll do fine!
There is a cat rescue here that does an application process and home visit. I think because they are a private rescue, it is more difficult for them to invest in all of the animals they save and rehome. So they want to make sure they are going to a good place.
Good luck! I’m sure they will be just find with the home you have to offer!
Thanks I really hope everything goes well…it should happen either this week or next week I’m so nervous I haven’t gotten anything for the new bunny yet….is that a bad thing?
Good luck! I’m sure they just want to see that the rabbit is going to a good home. Which I’m sure yours is lol~ Also it’s okay to hold off on buying extra supplies until it’s confirmed you’ll get a 2nd.
Great you heard from them. Exciting. You must be a bundle of nerves. It will be ok. You will do fine. You have 1 rabbit and are a good rabbit parent don’t worry. Things will go smoothly. The visitor will know you are nervous too.
so excited
i think it’ll happen next week…I’ll let you know how it goes, I’m sure it will go well I just never done anything like this before I’m glad I’ll be able to give a bunny in need a home
The official day is Saturday
super excited (slightly nervous) I hope she thinks our home is good enough for one of their bunnies, Good news on Jake (our dog) he’s a hunting breed but seems to be atypical and with a lot of training and the fact that he’s indifferent anyway I can have him stand next to Caleb and he doesn’t even care (I of course am holding him close and have a firm hand on his harness) https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10203185603106134&l=6fafc2c963 still don’t know how to post pictures >.>
That’s awesome about Jake! I know you two have been really contentious about any possible issues and have been working with him a lot. I’m glad it’s paying off.
Good luck with you home visit!
Thanks
can you see the picture by copying and pasting the link? now Jake will usually be in the living room with us and Caleb (Jake sits on the couch with us with his harness and leash on just in case) but usually he’s just like “yeah I’m going to sleep”
I could see it by copying and pasting. ![]()
Here it is in case anyone can’t though:

Thank you so much for doing that for me…posting pictures on here confuses me, I tried loading them the way it says too but I just don’t get it. The look on Caleb’s face says it all…”why is this dog standing next to me?”
I’m a little scared…I know bunnies will be different in person than descriptions and pictures on a website but Josh (my boyfriend) said none of the bunnies on the rescue website stuck out to him….it worries me that he won’t like a bunny that Caleb picks out (which won’t bother me because I think all the bunnies are adorable and will accept what bunny Caleb picks) but what if Josh doesn’t like any of them…we’ve talked about just going to a breeder but I REALLY want to rescue not only because I’ve been waiting so long but also to help a bunny find a good home that they haven’t had before. Also it helps that they are already spayed/neutered so we don’t have to spend the money on that and can be spent on their condo and stuff for them….I obviously am just going to have to wait and see how it goes but did any of this happen to you guys? Were you unsure about the bunnies a rescue has but then it turned out really good?
There are usually more bunnies at a rescue then you see on their website. For example the rescue local to me has maybe 20-30 online but I know they are always at capacity which is 50-60 slots. 50% or more of the rabbits that they have in their care aren’t online. Dexter and Penny didn’t stand out to me online and I had some other bunnies I was more interested but we all know how that worked out. Lol.
Try not to worry too much. It’s really hard to get a feel for a bunny online (and again, there could be lots more there). ![]()
lol yea penny and dexter are adorable, I was even contemplating getting an already bonded pair but I was like no that would probably be way too much lol
thanks for supporting me through this Jen I’m just trying to still figure out having another bunny lol 2 seems like so many I couldn’t imagine having 5 or 6 lol but I’m happy we’re getting another one
super excited
Alright home visit is tomorrow, we are doing some MAJOR cleaning tonight and tomorrow so the apartment actually looks presentable
bathroom is spotless, living room almost there, kitchen is going to be done sometime, bunny nails are going to be trimmed after dinner, and then cleaning our room so it doesn’t look like a tornado hit it (laundry done already but still gotta clean) *also I’m not doing all of this just because of the home visit though that is the main reason, it needed to be done anyway and she just gave us more reason to do it now*
Great to hear your visit is tomorrow. You made it thru half the wait. Excellent. The holidays probably delayed things.
I am looking forward to hearing how it went.
So what happens next does a bunny come to your home and Caleb picks one or do you go to the foster home and Caleb pics one? Just curious how that is going to work.
And your dog doesn’t seem to care. I am sure you are careful anyways
I’ll know tomorrow because I’m going to ask those questions tomorrow
always careful and they don’t usually get that close I wanted a picture because I knew he wasn’t going to do anything
Good luck! ![]()
thanks ![]()
So the home visit got pushed to tomorrow because she was going to take a guinea pig to their new home somewhere close to me but the guinea pig got lice (didn’t know they could) and so she couldn’t deliver it and therefore didn’t come to my house…so tomorrow for sure
sucks waiting another day
Oh no! I was all excited when I saw you updated the thread.
When I was younger my mother used to make us clean the house extra well before company came over. We would deep clean everything and then as soon as someone arrived she would look woefully at the house and say, “Sorry my house is such a mess”. People either knew she was lying or thought we were crazy people that thought spotless was messy. Lol. Your cleaning comments reminded me of that for some reason.
Good luck X 2!
MD – I do that ‘all’ the time! I even have a friend who never puts her vacuum away and upon visitors arrival says “Oh, I was just about to vacuum”! Ha ha ha…..
Good thing I wasn’t holding my breath for you kcomstoc (how frustrating!) I’d have passed out by now, so I’ll just keep on keeping my fingers crossed. I’m so excited (for ‘you’ of course, he he…). Hopefully when I wake up tomorrow you will have a new house guest (family member). Cheers kcomstoc.
lol good thing AndHenry
I don’t think it’ll happen that fast just because we have to actually build the condo before any new bunnys can come here to live, it only has 1 level right now when we’re done we want it to have 3 levels.
MD yea everything is clean now
but our apartment REALLY needed this deep clean it was starting to be a real mess lol I have a friend that her apartment is ALWAYS spottless and she’s like I’m sorry it’s a mess lol I’m like ummmmmm I know you’ve seen my apartment this isn’t a mess.
Everything went perfect!!!! she really thought our home was a good one and she really liked us. She’s actually has a bunny I’m really interested in and sounds like Caleb and him would be a perfect match. Caleb even hopped on her lap for pets (which he rarely does with us). She was really nice and I’m very excited to get started, I really want Caleb to meet the foster she has (she mentioned something about this weekend) I’m so happy that everything went so well. She said his cage looked really good and we made some homemade cord covers and it was really cool. So I’m pretty sure by next month or so we will have a second bunny, hopefully
Glad to hear it went well. I know how much you worried. I can’t wait to see your second bunny.
Yay! Glad it went well. ![]()
So the second bunny I really want that has the same mannerisms of Caleb go to http://www.therabbitresource.org and go to adopt/males his name is wally and he’s about 5-7 pounds (about 2x the size of Caleb) lol I really think they would get along.
