question for bbers who let buns play in snow.

Are your buns used to the cold  that they play in the snow and not get sick?  Have they ever gotten sick from playing in the snow?

Do you put clothes on them to keep them warm when they play?

Just asking. It gets cold here in the day too so I put a harness jacket on Cotton and a regular string harness type thing on him and he is warmer that way so he can run n play in the yard.  He loves it.  It doesn’t snow here but can be colder than we are used to in the day here.

Til we get home that is.  I tried putting a little shirt on cotton I made for him.  OH my he slapped me and grunted and leaped onto my shoulder to keep me from putting his other foot thru it.  lol.   So I just use the jacket.  lol.  Silly boy.

I’ve let Tank rabbit play in the snow before. I’m sure it gets a lot colder here than in Louisiana or Florida LOL. He’s been outside well below freezing, for about as long as I can stand it. He doesn’t mind it.

Our buns live outside, it was -40F a week ago and not a single one looked even remotely distressed. Charlie – a doe of ours – had a little mustache going on, but otherwise was perfectly happy.

Rabbits are built to withstand cold. A bun is much happier in -40 than 80F. Unless your bun has coat issues, in that its thin, or old, any bun should be perfectly fine in snow.

I will note that breed does play a big difference. If you own a particularly small rabbit than obviously it won’t be as cold hardy as say, a silver fox (Silver – our silver fox – overheats inside the house. Our house is never above 68F). I doubt it gets below 0 (does it?) and most, healthy, decent coated buns can stand temperatures above 0.

              oh thnks  for your responses.

Cotton is a little fellow.  HE has thin almost bald spot on back of his neck/shoulder blade area.  Thats what concerned me.  And coming in and out house too.

So bunny had a mustache of ice how funny

Ah, I see. Charlie (my doe) has a thin spot too – she is also a bit underweight, so she’s going under ‘special treatment’ and gets to live inside for a while. For thin fur I’d say a coat would be very helpful.

                Lol, it was.
