My laptop’s power cord is dying… this will be the 4th or 5th one the bunnies have maimed. .  I do a pretty good job bunny proofing most cords – but the laptops there’s really no good way to keep them out of bunny mouth-range 100% of the time.

How do you guys protect cords for items you use a lot, where just tucking the cord away isn’t really practical?

Has anyone used these guys?  http://www.cableorganizer.com/wire-loom/split-wire-loom.html

Any tips or ideas are much appreciated.  Maybe I should just start buying power cords in bulk, LOL.

I think special cord covers are made that are chew proof yes? Have you tried searching old threads for some info? I don’t use any covers because my bun is in a 6×8 foot pen full time but I think I remember others saying they use specific covers that are hard to chew through…

I have split corrugated cord-covers like those in your post, but silver in color, from IKEA. If a bunny puts his mind to it he would of course be capable of chewing through it, but it would take some time and hopefully you’d notice what he’s up to. My bunnies have clipped thin cords in passing, it takes like a split sec, with covers on them at least you’ve a decent chance. My bunnies haven’t chewed at cords that have covers on them, but that’s of course no guarantee that they never will.

I learned the hard way – dam! We lost our phone connection, have stopped using things, like fans cause he’s chewed through to the wires, etc., and so on. Anyhow, I’m not suggesting this is good advice, but….. When my hubby changed the cord on my heater (yes, Henry chewed it) I kept the old cord and it is still laying next to his house to this very day. Thinking if he is so keen to chew cords, “here, chew this one”! Guess what? I haven’t come across a newly chewed cord since. And he really hasn’t chewed the old heater cord – over it? Boring! Go figure?

Oh yes.   When Cotton was a wee one I spliced my share of cords.  Not laptop cords tho.  But I am sure you know the drill lamp cords  sleep number bed cord  chewed in 5 pieces tv cord lol n such.

I forget the name of them but my Mom found them at Stines Hardware for around 3.00   They are like the ones you show.   I can stuck 2 fingers in it.  Well I have lady hands and they are small.   The covers have a split down the center makes it easier to put the cord or cords in it.

The thinner ones Cotton has chewed on but the thicker ones that you can stick 2 ladyfingers (human fingers yes pun intended) in  are the better size to get.

By the way  I replaced the chewed laptop cord at a reasonable honest computer repair store that had pieces of this n that , That the couple accumulated for 25.00   It was the exact match So maybe that would help you get a cheaper one than paying top dollar for new ones.

Plus I keep my laptop on top my couch headrest and for some reason Cotton hasn’t chewed the new wire on it.  I have also thrown a towel over it to discourage chewing.  Been safe ever since

                good luck

We use these things on the cords that can’t be totally away from teeth, such as the cord to Porky’s AC.

I use the split vacuum tube cord covers – I got 100ft of it on amazon for like $15 or something. It on a cord makes the cord very boring to them. Haven’t lost any covered cords.

You don’t, they always find a way to chew them. Lol just kidding. For me I just use a rabbit pin and hide the core. Hope that made sense. :/
