  So I currently own a 1 yr old male neutered mini lop.. he’s a lil 5 lb guy.. and he’s never really been the most “affectionate” bun in the world, he likes his space and he comes to you when he wants–haates being picked up but he’s not nippy or anything, he just likes doing his own thing… ha.
  
  Anyway, he just seems really lonely to me… he has a huge nic cage with 3 floors, and he’s usually just lounging out on the top or hiding in a corner on the bottom.. so I came up with the idea of adopting him a friend.
  
  My lop and I went to go meet a 1 yr old mini lop male (neutered) at a rescue today. I know, I know, males rarely get along… these two immediately bonded.. Within 5 minutes they were lounging out together and cleaning each other. The rescue was as shocked as I was about how good they were together–And when I brought my rabbit home (we’re probably picking up the other bun this weekend) he even seemed happier–cuddlier with me, bopping around his cage.. and I have a cat who is REALLY good with my guy, and I told the rescue I wanted to bring the new bun on a trial for a week first to make sure my guy isn’t territorial and the cat is good with him.
  
  I guess my one question is–Am I totally crazy for adopting another bunny? Is my bun going to completely bond with him and avoid me now? I love my lil guy and I’m happy to get him a friend, but I usually let him out alot and I don’t want him to ignore me even more than he already does! Lol

  I wish people would stop saying that males rarely get along, it’s not all that true.
  
  No, your rabbit will still like you just as much as he did before at least. Possibly more, since he’ll be so happy to have a friend who speaks “rabbit”

  I definitely agree with you, you wouldn’t believe how many rescues told me “oh males never get along your guy cant meet one of our males, try this bun instead”… my lop is the calmest guy I knew he’d be ok, and he proved me right

  Neutered males are easier than spayed females in many cases. That may have been the rescue’s experience, but lots of people have bonded males.

  I have no advice because I’m in a similar situation now. We’re slowly trying to bond our two-year-old neutered male mini lop to our recently-adopted three-year-old neutered male Holland lop.
  
  All I can say is, no, you’re not at all crazy! Just take it slow, be prepared for setbacks, and be patient. Hahaha, I’m not saying that from experience (well, a little experience), but from the advice I’ve received from others.
  
  Keep posting – it’ll be fun to see how things progress since we’ll be at similar stages with our boys.

  I remember when we took Nugget for speed dating, he got along with females and males. The biggest factor is personality. If both rabbits are friendly and calm by nature, then they’ll get along just fine =) Sounds like you’ll have it easy when you start to bond them.
  
  I also had the same fear when I started looking for a potential friend for my little guy. He had a very close bond with my boyfriend and me, gives us kisses, loves attention, and just a super easygoing bunny. And he never changed after he was bonded, still loving as can be. I think it will only change if you give him less attention. Plus, once you start bonding with your new bunny, everyone in the house will be happy!

  awes I hope it goes well….I’m trying to find a bunny for my little 1.6 year old neutered holland lop I told the rescue I would like to see male and female rabbits and they were like “well females bond better with males” and I said “that’s not always true, I would still like to try”. But I’m still waiting for my home visit set up so that I can pass inspection…but I hope this turns out well keep us updated

  My two boys are VERY good together so don’t believe everything you hear.. I had one rescue flat out refuse to show me males to try out with my male, and he is attached at the hip to the male I wound up adopting and bonding with him. They’ve been together since day 1 and are great. My only issue is now that they have their big nic cage and a friend to hang with, they don’t wanna leave it! Ha.

  I saw your question on whether or not your bun will ignore you more – I’ve actually had luck with it being the opposite. My shy buns are a lot more friendly with me now that they had a friend kind of “show them how” or rather they had the friend they trusted to go up to you with and interact. Although each time I have added another bun, my buns have ignored me for about a week while they really settle into their relationship together before becoming more interested in me.
  
  I also have three males bonded (to three other females) and my boys LOVE to snuggle and groom each other.
