I think that Bear is having some problems with his stomach. For the past hour or so his poop has been slightly moist and oddly shaped. I noticed that there was some stuck to his fur. I was wiping it off with a pet grooming wipe, and when he started kicking me to let him go, I heard gurgling noises. I heard them again as he was hopping away. I picked him up and felt that his stomach was awfully hard. I rubbed his tummy for a while – much tooth purring involved – and it eventually went soft again. He otherwise seems to be fine and not in pain. He’s hopping around like normal and hasn’t been hunched over or seemingly unhappy at all. He does usually get very excited at pellet time, but he didn’t really seem to care when I fed him his pellets tonight. He has been eating them here and there though. He’s never really been good about eating his hay (I’ve only had him for just over a month) and I’ve been giving him only hay and water (no pellets) for the past few days to encourage him to eat it. He doesn’t currently get any vegetables, as the vet recommended that I don’t introduce them until he’s good about eating hay or otherwise it would harm his digestion. He gets 1/4 cup of Oxbow pellets a day (in two 1/8 cup intervals), he used to be on Kaytee Fiesta at his old home but I switched him to Oxbow and he’s been 100% Oxbow for about two weeks. He also gets one of the Oxbow multivitamin hay tabs per day. I haven’t given him any new foods for the past few days, aside from some fresh grass two days ago, but I didn’t see him eat any and it was still in his dish the next morning.
I’ve read that you can give rabbits a children’s gas medication but I don’t have any and it’s too late to go out to the store tonight. The only thing I have is Tums, but I don’t think you can give that to rabbits, can you? I also don’t have a thermometer to take his temperature (I don’t really want to use my family’s thermometer) but his ears feel as warm as usual. The problem doesn’t seem too serious but I don’t want to just ignore it anyways. Any help/advice would be great, thank you
