At what age is a rabbit considered a senior?

  I am just curious to know. Just so that when my rabbit becomes a senior I will know he is, so i can look up how to better care for him as a senior. Plus i just want to know.

  Well House Rabbit Society says over 6 years old but I don’t think that is very up to date in my opinion – I would say 8 years old.
  
  I have a 12 year old and my friend has a 13 year old and I have another friend with a 12 year old. I have also had rabbits who were 10 and 11 years old.

  Yes, 6 years is the age that they are thought of as seniors, but just like with people, that can vary. Some people are 60 and feel/act 90… And there are many people in their 80s or 90s who are still going strong! I wouldn’t change anything with your rabbit’s care/diet if he/she is still thriving on what they have been getting. You could supplement with a little alfalfa if you want, but it’s not always necessary.

  I always think it starts after age 6, but really it’s whenever your bunny shows signs of aging ailments. My vet did say that after a certain age their teeth finally stop growing, so if your bunny has teeth that need filing down, that will eventually stop. But that’s more like age 7 or 8. Their entire life span can double at age 6 if they are in very good health, so half their life they could be called “senior”. Just call them Your Highness and that will suffice.
