I was clipping my rabbits nail tonight and when I was about to get one of his back ones he moved a bit and I cut just a little too far. When I first got my rabbits I made that mistake once or twice, but there was only a little blood and they seemed fine after. This time, even though I didn’t even cut the pink part, just close to it, there was a lot of blood. It didn’t seem to hurt him because he didn’t even flinch but it didn’t stop bleeding for a long time. We put some gentle pressure on it and cleaned it out with a wet paper towel and eventually it stopped. A few minutes after we put him down I noticed he was cleaning the injured foot and he started it bleeding again.

I am worried it is going to get infected… Is there anything I can do to prevent that? How would I know if it got infected (what should I look for over the next few days). Should I try to bandage it somehow, or should I just leave him alone because he knows what hes doing?

        I am very concerned

        Thanks

        Matt

Use syptic powder or cornstarch to stop the bleeding.
If it doesn’t seem to be hurting him, it’s probably fine, I would just watch it for a day or two, but it’s not a huge deal. I have never heard of a toenail getting infected, but I suppose it could happen, just keep his cage clean. Signs of infection would be redness, pain when you touch the nail, limping, swelling, etc. I don’t think infection is likely to happen though.
