› FORUM › HOUSE RABBIT Q & A › Albus is a GIRL
*Albus* is currently at the vet having her spay operation
(fingers crossed please!)
But the big news is that he is a she!
I think we all knew this might happen. The people I got her from weren’t 100% sure, and neither was the vet when we first visited. Today the vet confirmed that she is in fact a girl. Obviously it’s not a problem, but it is a bit confusing, I keep wanting to say ‘he’! ![]()
Bit annoying because a spay costs more than a castration too.
So we need a new name!
I thought about making Albus into Alberta or Albina etc. but I don’t really like those ideas so I think I’m looking for a whole new name!
The ones I like so far are:
Luna
Cassie
Aroura
What do you guys think?
What do you like? and any other ideas?
For now when we’re talking about her being at the vet, she’s just either ‘bunny’ or ‘fluffle butt’.
I’ll let you all know this evening how she’s getting on after her op!
Congratulations! It’s a girl!
If your really happy with the name ‘Albus’ – stick with it! I actually had Henry picked out for a girl, and when my son bought a boy home, I couldn’t think of another name, so stuck with it. (And don’t tell my son’s I told you this – but I actually had there names picked out for girls too and stuck with them). But, if your super keen to have a girly girl name – go for it!
Wishing your girl (Albus? lol!) all the best with her spaying and most importantly her recovery. Cheers!
Alberta ?
Congrats! 🙂
You can definitely keep the name! This made me think of an older show “Step By Step”. The daughter was named Alexandra I believe, but everyone called her Al.
All of the names you picked out sound lovely (I’m a bit partial to Luna and Cassie)! I agree with the other posts so far; you shouldn’t feel that you HAVE to change her name. However, that being said, I originally wanted to name my bunny Earl, but refrained from doing so when I fell in love with a girl bun. -.- I thought of naming her Mearl instead, but ended up with Tiger. Completely different (and gender neutral). Maybe you should go with whatever name suits your bun’s personality best? Sounds like a fun decision to make either way. Good luck with it!
Thanks for the ideas everyone! I’m leaning towards Luna at the moment, but I guess if I call her Albus accidentally I’ll let it go! Haha
The vet called and surgery went well, but she hasn’t started eating yet. I’m going to collect her in a couple of hours ![]()
What about Minerva? It would keep with the teachers of Hogwarts theme. 🙂
So she’s back and eating a very little bit, no poops yet.
She keeps licking at trying to chew at her stitches, we’re stopping her with our hands but she just keeps going for it! It’s really stressing me out!
The house rabbit society says we might try wrapping her belly in a dish towel and elastic band… Should we try this?! I don’t want to bother her unnecessarily…
The vet requires that we bring her in tomorrow to check on her which is great, so we can talk to the vet then.
Glad to hear she is back home and has eaten a little bit. If you are seeing your vet tomorrow I would wait to see what the vet says about her chewing at her stitches. My vet used internal stitches and then glued the incision so I was lucky both my rabbits didn’t mess with the area. As for her name if you like her orginal name keep it. I did like Aurora and the other names you mentioned. I thought that my girl Kilala might have been a boy for a short but and I was just gonna keep the same name if it turned out that way. Hope she heals well. =)
They are the internal stitches, I forgot to mention that – does it make a difference?
Well congrats on your “new” baby girl!!!!!
She may need to be fitted with a cone if she won’t leave the stiches alone.
Glad to hear she’s back home!
Can you call the vet office and ask if they want to give her a cone this afternoon? You’re not going to be able to watch her all night and they can do a lot of damage pretty quick.
We wrapped a tea towel around her tummy and she’s left it since then so I guess that will have to do until tomorrow (it’s late here now)
She seems very quiet, sitting cuddled up in her litter box (I don’t think she’s pooped yet though).
She ate a lettuce leaf and has licked the water off a lettuce leaf but that’s it…
Is she okay? I’m worried she’s not moving around and not really drinking or popping? ![]()
A minute after I posted that she had a very awkward hop about..
Still worried ago her drinking pooping etc?
I’m sorry. When I replied earlier I didn’t catch that you are in the UK. I was thinking your vet was probably still open.
It’s not uncommon for them to not eat (or eat very little) for the first 24 hours. Do you have pain meds for her?
No pain meds for her, she’s eaten a couple of lettuce leaves but that’s it. I’m worried about her water intake too… :/
She seems a bit more lively than last night though!
She’s still fussing with her wound, so I guess we’ll get a cone at the vet later.
When Blueberry came back from her spay, she took a couple days to get back to her normal eating/drinking habits. She always gobbles up fresh veggies like nobody’s business, though – so when i gave them to her, I made sure I sprinkled them with a lot of water to make sure she stayed hydrated.
