I have a 4.5 year old Holland Lop, Krimpet, and two years ago I took in my mother’s cat, Shasta, because she was unable to care for her any longer. A few days ago, Shasta passed away. Shasta and Krimpet hung out together, but Shasta never wanted a cuddle relationship with Krimpet, though I think he would have liked that. I know he’s looked for her, but am wondering if I need to be concerned about depression, and if I do, what signs should I look for, and what should I do if I see them?

I’m so very sorry about the loss of Shasta.

I know that bunnies will certainly mourn for their bonded mates, although, I’m not sure about another type of animal. Usually signs of depression are less appetite and energy.

I would just make sure to spend extra time with your bun the next little while. Make sure he knows he is loved.
