i live in southern ontario canada and its pretty cold here, theres about 5 inches of snow on the ground and while i shovled the driveway i let my bun bentley sit outside on the front porch in a blanket to keep him warm as he is an indoor rabbit. he sat there nicely and didnt move while i shovled and then i decided to let him run around in the backyard. when i first put him down he was scared but then he started hopping around and playing. should i put dog shoes on him ? or a dog coat? he is almost done molting and we were only out for about 5 – 10 mins but i just want to make sure he wont get sick or anything

I’m not sure what the point is to bringing your rabbit outside? It doesn’t sound like you can supervise well (I know you were likely close by when you were shoveling but it only takes seconds for something to happen-a hawk, a cat, a dog, your rabbit running in the road)-and it doesn’t sound like your rabbit likes it very much? Additionally it’s cold out!
So my 2cents -don’t put clothing or boots on, and keep your bunny inside

Why not bring a tray of snow inside for him to play in? That would be safer.

Even if he’s blowing his coat, he’ll be fine. We have 3 feet of snow on the ground right now and the bunnies LOVE it. If you have a fence and can supervise then its fine. Rabbits do great in cold weather, but if you notice that he gets cold then bring him in right away. If his feet get cold continually or he gets cold easy, then you can just bring in a tray of snow.

No need for coats and boots, bunnies don’t mind cold. Just make sure the area you take him out to play in is otherwise bunny safe.

My bunny Sunny loves the snow, but I am very careful when we take him out, I am always with my husband, and we are the only two people Sunny trusts completely, and we have a fenced-in yard. We watch him like a hawk and he has places to hide if he feels frightened. (he’s 3 and has only been out a handful of times) As others have mentioned, bringing in a tray of snow is much safer. http://youtu.be/xE6izJNqHGA
