Last week I attempted to clip the buns nails. It did not go well. I tried holding them on their backs and doing it, but they squirmed so bad I was afraid they’d hurt themselves. I tried holding them normally and having someone else do the clipping, and that didn’t work either. I tried a nonslip table, and they kept running around. When I did manage to grab a paw, they’d just run off right before I could clip the nail. Someone help me! The nearest rabbit vet is two hours away so taking them there is not an option.

it’s probably not the most sensible option but I tend to do it when they’re flopped about or just chilling on my bed. They don’t mind their feet being held so I just hold onto their paw and clip them. The instructions on my nail clippers said you should do it in a “1,2,3”. On 1, you put the clippers on the nail where you’re going to clip and squeeze without cutting, then squeeze again without cutting on 2 and then clip on 3. This is because they’ll try and move their foot if you’re cutting too close to the quick, so you don’t want to go straight in and then hurt them if you’ve got it wrong.

If you have a friend to help that can be useful, I get my boyfriend to hold them still whilst get their feet. Also wrapping them up in a blanket with a foot out can work (people on here call it a bunny burrito :3 ). Make sure you have treats and fun things to give them once it’s over.

          Hope that helps!

I just have my boyfriend hold them still (weight on shoulder blades, body against the persons chest, other hand holding their butt for support) and I clip their nails by starting on his left side then walking over to his right side. They can’t squirm away since he has the weight distributed properly on their shoulders. Before I got him to understand how to do that, they slipped right out of his arms though and wiggled like crazy making it impossible. Could also try bunny burrito.

I do each of my bunnies differently, because different things work better for each of them.

Otto doesn’t hate being held, so my husband holds Otto against his chest, with feet sticking out while I clip the nails. It’s a pretty secure hold with one hand on the bunny’s chest and the other under his bum.

Hannah hates being held, so it’s easier to do her on the counter. We put her on a towel, and then sort of wrap it over her so we can cover her eyes. She doesn’t have to be in a full bunny burrito, but having the towel loosely wrapped around her gives us a little more control. My husband holds her down by the shoulders, and then I pull out each foot one at a time to trim the nails.

Hopefully one of these methods will work for your bun. I’ve never been able to trim them by myself, so having a helper makes a huge difference.

Throw a big towel over the bunny while he/she is on the floor, then scoop them up from each side while wrapping the sides of the towel under the bunny as you pickm up. Keep it fairly tight around the body wrappung both sides around.then pull the bottom of the towel up around the bottom of the legs up to the chest to support the back legs.

I clip mine while he is being pet by someone else (he usually wont move when being pet) or when he is sat on the carpet eating a pile of veggies. He is so interested in the other things he doesn’t even notice me with my flashlight slowly pulling his feet out from under him. This video looks like a great way to do it, http://www.howcast.com/videos/514678-How-to-Trim-Your-Rabbits-Nails-Pet-Rabbits
