ive been noticing that every other day for the past 5 days fluffy’s litterbox is stained with a pinkish red colour. is this just coloured urine or actual blood?

additional info- she is 3 yrs old and unspayed . im really hoping this is not uterine cancer!

Stained as in it’s a normal color, but there is a tint / lines of a pinkish color? If so, I would take a sample with you and have her checked out by the vet. If it’s actually a rusty color, sometimes buns have urine that ranges in colors and can look quite red/orange. But, if she hasn’t had a checkup in a while, might be a good idea to take her in anyway since she’s nearing the age of when cancer risk is high.

i havent actually seen it on her bum or on the floor but it was in her litterbox & it stainned her litter red/pink. her litter is similar to carefresh natural- its grayish in color and the pee had stained it red. ill put up a picture the next time it happens

Ah, it might be the orangey rust colored then, it would look pretty red on that litter. You could put some white printer paper over the litter to check her urine for blood specks if you’re worried. It will show better on that if it’s the urine itself or blood.

She did it again today. If you look closely theres a pinkish tint where she peed (sorry for the graphic picture!) Now this is not actually that bad, usually the whole “wet” area is pink

Also her poop is starting to have light brown spots in it, is that normal?

The color of droppings can vary by what they eat, sometimes my buns have dark brown, sometimes a lighter brown, sometimes a mix.. As for the urine, I can’t tell anything by that pic and it’s going to be really hard to tell anything on that litter at all. To examine her urine, it needs to be a plain WHITE area that preferably doesn’t absorb all the urine so you can actually see what the liquid color is. Regular paper works, or a blanket, towel, whatever just make sure it is white. But, if this is abnormal and you think she may be having bloody urine – call the vet anyway to ask their opinion.

I’d agree its probably just the pee changing colour. Atm I have a bun on puppy pads and towel and the pee stain is entirely pink colour. It’s yellow when she pees then changes to pink over time.

As SB mentioned, she is of the age when uterine cancer risk is high. Do you have plans to have her spayed? I really recommend it. Then you won’t have to worry about this ever again. : )

Rabbit pee can come in a rainbow of colors, but that looks rather normal. Are you going to get her spayed?

The cost varies A LOT area to area, vet to vet. Anywhere from $140-$400+.

Some low-cost neuter clinics do rabbit desexings so definitely look into if your area offers this.

This organization might provide you with some names of rabbit savvy vets and more definite quotes.
