callie has been in super destructo mode. she lives in a 4’x4′ xpen with an added 2’x4′ second level. there is a litter box on the bottom in the back right corner. when i added the level, she started peeing in the corner ABOVE the litter box, so i added a smaller one up there. problem solved, for over a year.

now, all of a sudden, she has decided that she doesn’t like the second litter box, and constantly flings it off the level, making a lovely mess for me to clean. i’ve tried leaving it where it landed (she pees where it should be), putting it back (she throws it off again) and taking it out altogether (she pees where it was). this has been going on for a few weeks. besides taking the level down, which is easy but sad, i’m at a loss.

also, she’s been otherwise extra destructive and slightly aggressive. what’s her deal? she’s 1.5 years old, spayed, and generally good natured.

My first thought is to take the level out, even just temporarily, to see if her habits approve. Another option would be to anchor the box into the corner using zip ties.

What is the level surface made out of? Fabric, carpet, wood? Is it retaining the smells?
