My bunny is only 10 weeks, but when I was doing research into rabbits before I got her, I thought that they would be all crazy into chewing everything and I’d need to be careful, so we bunny proofed to the max. She doesn’t appear to want to chew anything besides her hay and pellets…and had a bit of a go at the straw, too.
I’m kind of surprised. I imagined her chewing the table legs or something lol.

Do they perhaps not chew much until matured? or is this something I might need to be careful about because if she isn’t chewing, her teeth might have issues?

In her hutch when I got her, I put some fruit flavoured wood chews, a bit of a thick stick with bark on it and toys etc. Also she’s roaming free in the house every day or night as well with plenty to play with or chew in there.

It could change once she hits puberty or it could just be her personality. It’s better to be safe than sorry and keep everything bunny proofed while she is out. Count yourself lucky, my bunny chews through the “bunny proof” cables in order to eat my electronics and my chairs and couch aren’t even salvageable at this point…

The main thing they need to keep their teeth healthy is hay so I wouldn’t worry about that.

It’s not likely that she has teeth issues this young, but when she goes in for her vet exam, the vet will check.

I agree with bpash that this is something that usually creeps up once they get a bit older and hit puberty (males about 3-4 months, females about 4-6 months). Also, when a bunny is new to a house, they are sometimes too timid to chew on things right away. As they become more comfortable, destructive behaviors may increase.

Heh, there was a sofa table in their room for 2 years. Never touched it once. Then one day, BAM, time to chew on those legs. o_O

lol. Maybe I’ll have a little terror on my hands one day or when she hits her teens then I’ve already got two budgies that like to chew things. At the moment they seem a bit perplexed about what this fluffy little thing running around the house is lol.

I got my bun at 6 mos old and he did not chew on anything, except cords. I got him some of the chew sticks at the petstore, and still no. At about one year, he won a local bunny contest and there were some fresh apple wood twigs in there. He loved them and still does. So now, he does take a nibble on wood and rattan every now and then, but not too bad. He’s happy as long as he has fresh apple twigs.

Mine doesn’t chew much at all either. He is only 5 months so time will tell. He might take a quick nibble on something but then just decides against it. We shall see!

Might have spoken too soon. She has taken to trying to tug the packets of anything away from me when I try to fill up her hay or pellets lol.
