Hi everyone, so I have had our bunny about 3 weeks.  I was a responsible owner and took him to a vet for a checkup.  He was really friendly, tolerated being held and seemed to love being petted.  Unfortunately the vet found coccidia in his poop and so I have had to give hi medicine 2 times a day for 10 days, so now when I get near him he freaks out and runs back to his house. He will run up to my son and climb right up to his lap.  I feel like I am done torturing my poor bunny and now he is emotionally scarred. Any advice on how to help him be more comfortable.  I am limited with treats as he is only 3 weeks old.

        Thanks,

        Deborah

Don’t feel bad, even though he doesn’t know it, you are doing what is best for him. Unfortunately there is not much you can do to make medicine better.

I think you meant to say he is 13 weeks old, your profile says when you got him he was 9, and now you’ve had him for 3 weeks.

Try to bond with him the way you did when you got him. Spend time with him where you don’t give him meds so he knows that seeing you doesn’t necessarily mean meds.

Don’t worry about it – my female bun was the same way when I had to treat her for a URI. They get over it. Just give him time and don’t pick him up unless you absolutely have to. He’ll forgive you for the medicine in a few weeks.
