Today I was home from work with a cold so I thought I would use the time to try and clip Rufus’ nails. He used to be ok with it, though never liked it but I could always get it done but lately he is completely against it. So I got about two nails done and he was wriggling and unhappy and then he took a leap off the surface I had him on. He was wrapped in a towel but managed to squirm out. He was licking his front paw again and again and holding it off the ground when he was still and then he started chewing on something crunchy that I couldn’t work out. Turns out he pulled off his dew claw (and then ate it). Poor little guy! Of course I feel terrible, after all that time trying to cut his nails and now one is as short as can be. Luckily the vet could see him about half an hour after it happened. They said it was very clean, gave him a painkiller shot and cut the rest of his nails (out the back so I couldn’t watch and stress out). Then I remembered I had to check that the painkiller wouldn’t stop him eating because he ate a small bit of plastic bag this morning and I’d been watching to make sure he ate tonnes of hay.

All in all, I’m just feeling like the worst bunny mum ever today. This cold has really put me off my game

We all have our moments….. I’m sure he’ll be OK. Can’t remember but I thought you were on my side of the country… You could see if Peta from Woofmeowtweetsqueak comes down your way. She’s brilliant.. It costs me $25 for 7 nail trims and sometimes nail trims and a Piglet haircut depending on how long it takes. If you have other pets you can get the dog washed, the cats and dogs claws trimmed etc etc… Peta has a flat rate of $25 per hour. Usually get mine done on a Saturday or Sunday arvo.

Oh wow that sounds amazing! Unfortunately I’m in Sydney. I did find an ad for someone who’d do a nail trim for $5 which seemed extremely cheap. It’s forty minutes from my house though. I meant to ask at the vet how much they would charge for just doing nails. Today cost me $80 but that was for a check up and painkiller shot too. I thought I’d be ok clipping them on my own but after today’s disaster I’m staying away He seems fine, eating like a piggy and binkying. I just feel horrible.

These things happen no matter how much you love them… Blossom did a flying leap off the grooming table once even though we both had hold of her and broke a nail. Another tie she managed to get to the top of the bunny condo and rather than be lifted down like Pipi she took a header over the side smack into the ramp.. Blossom must have a head like a brick, I was a basket case and she was fine.. Blossom also ate the bunny room fly screen and most of the vertical blinds..

Thanks Roberta, that does make me feel better! Rufus and zoomies is the worst, the happier he is the more likely he is to slam into something. I guess I’ve been waiting for something like this to happen for a while.
