Have booked Nermal De Nomnoms in for her spay on Friday…

This is the first of my girls to be done and I am extremely stressed.

The anxiety attacks and nausea have already started…

That I will have to be away from home for several hours on Saturday is not helping my stress levels…..

Is there anything i can do to help? I still have Apollo’s pet store cage, if you need somewhere to put her where movement will be restricted. It’s not huge, but it’s big enough that she’ll be able to hop a little, and still have food/water/litter Let me know if i can help in any way!

(VIBES) for Nermal…(HUGS) for you! It’ll be okay!

Nermal will be ok, dont worry I was so anxious when I had Belle done, but she came round just fine and was back to her normal self in a few days.
Just try to stay relaxed and give Nermal lots of strokes, and have a good stash of coriander at home incase she needs to be prompted into eating … Belle is a coriander monster

Nomnoms loves her greens but its Craisins she craves. I am also getting some pureed apple and banana baby food and I have a satchel of Critta Care (its an Aussie made critical care) a friend who is a vet nurse said she would come and do fluids etc if there was any problems… I have 3 more girls to be done after this… I have been dreading the process and have run out of excuses..

I won’t be able to cope if I lose any of my girls….. There has been a lot of incidents of Floppy Bunny lately especially following surgery… I have changed their pellets for one with a higher vit E content and more varied Fescue, Oat and Lucern hay base for higher fibre and less fat. Piglet really needs the higher protein for his coat but I will just have to find other things to supplement his diet even if I just continue to blend the pellets.

Thanks BG, I got a hospital cage yesterday and of course there is now a bunny in Wanneroo Pound that needs to be yoinked and fostered. I just don’t have room. I’ve had to push all the furniture back in the lounge room to make room for Starsky (who is staying now) during the renos, now the temps are shooting up and the backroom will be too hot.. I have to get the spays done so I can start bonding and get everyone into the rabbit room. (which they are all going to have to be moved out of for 3 days whilst the peed on carpet is stripped and the tiles laid) We have a foster home for the pound bunny in Rockingham but S/he will have to be vet checked and speutered first then temp cared for a few days before going to the permanent foster. I think I am just so stressed because I am trying to do too much at once and worry that I will be distracted when Nomnoms needs me most.

Best of luck to you and Nermal. I know how stressful it is to have a bunny undergo any surgery or procedure. Just keep telling yourself how routine it is.

Are you having pre-spay blood work done? I allways do because it helps put my mind at ease to know they are healthy before they go under.

                  ((((Safe Spay Vibes))))

ps. I just love her little couch

One of the hard things is to just let them be… And also knowing when intervention is needed. I think you’ll do fine though. You know your bunbuns!
They honestly just want to stay put in a drugged out coma for a day or more. So your being away for a bit on Saturday shouldn’t really be a problem. I understand your stress though.
Sending much good luck for a straightforward spay and recovery for Nermal.

There has been a lot of incidents of Floppy Bunny lately especially following surgery..

Where is this happening? Are they recovering ok?

ETA: I missed the news that Starsky is staying!
btw, I have a silver marten coloured girl here atm, bonding to a black otter bun. So expressive with their white markings on the face!
                    Gorgeous.

                      Re Floppy Bunny…
Here in WA and NO they all crossed the bridge suddenly and within a few hours…

My Pepper is the most beautiful girl, I am not the least bit prejudice Pepper will be the last one to be spayed as she is the alpha bun.. It worries me as she is now 2.5 yrs old but my vet agreed that as the alpha bun she needed to go last due to Pipi’s desire to usurp the throne… Peppers will be the hardest…

Oh so sad! Do you know if all had same anaesthetic? Plus type of pain med they were given?
Sorry, I hate to cause you stress by asking. : (

All different vets so I can’t be sure… One could have been saved, maybe… But the person caring for her once worked as a vet assist in summer holidays and poopoo’d all suggestions. Even when the poor girl was obviously trying to eat the carer just would not try anything she thought was different… I know things about this carer and will be making moves to have her removed from foster carer lists.

I got it at My Pet Warehouse but it is a Vetafarm product so it is probably available in a lot of places… Do you have City Farmers in SA ?

My Pet Warehouse does Critical care?! I’m putting together an emergency kit since I really do need one, and if I’m getting pellets from MPW anyway, I might aswell grab some CC too. Is it called Critical Care, or is it under another name?

Its called Critta Care – Herbivores… It’s the same as critical care it’s just the Australian brand from Vetafarm

I also added to resealable satchels of banana and apple puree (pure no added sugar, water or preservatives) from Coles. They are like a $1.50 each, vaccuum sealed with a screw off cap. Brand is Ella’s Kitchen 100% organic. Should mix well with the Critta Care if needed or just work as a tasty treat to encourage eating all by itself.

I’m going to be heading down there next Saturday, did you have to order the Critta Care or did they have stock?

                                                    Hi JG,
Better now… I was a bit worried when she wouldn’t eat or drink anything that day but I left her in peace to give her a chance to relax.. When she still had not had anything by the morning I syringed fluids and managed to get quite a bit into her and when she started lapping the syringe I knew I was on the right track. She still would not eat but there was poop and pee in small amounts. I eventually managed to get her to have one tiny piece of hay before I went out and when I came home two hrs later she was sitting next to the big hay tray having a feed of meadow hay. This afternoon she has finally started showing an interest in greens again… The big concern are the hot days we have coming, I am leaving her in the palypen with the door of the room closed so I can’t run the cooler in there, plus Blossom ate the flyscreen and I haven’t been able to get it fixed yet so I can’t open the window to let the breeze in without 10,000 mosquitoes and flies coming in too. And of course they ate the cord of the rechargeable bug zapper and have knocked over their Xpen so I can’t put a plug in one in the room. They are going to turn me prematurely grey…..
I have been following Maples updates and sending vibes your way….

                                                      This sounds good.
It’s such a relief when they start showing interest in food.
If you haven’t done so already, put the water bowl right next to her. I found they were reluctant to move but as soon as i put the bowl there, theyd have a bit of a drink.

Nommie started lapping out of the water bowl just before I went out yesterday… That made me feel a lot better… She usually isn’t much of a drinker at all.
