  So I just got Jersey on thursday (monday today) and i clean her cage everyday and even replace the bedding but it still smells odd ? Also, I can’t keep her out for long periods of time because she’s always getting into trouble. She’s 5 months and not spayed. How much approximately would it be to get her spayed? Also, she poops all over the inside of her cage even though she’s “litter boxed trained” (what the previous owner told me), and she occasionally drops a little poop in my room including on my bed. If anyone could help me it would be so appreciated!

  Is smelling “odd” in terms of a strong urine smell? A vinegar/water mix is good for wiping down urine spots. Otherwise if you’ve never had bunnies before it could just be the mixed scent of hay, poop, the litter depending on what you use, that’s different from how your home smelled “pre-bunny”.
  
  Haha I’ve learned that bunnies are naturally little trouble makers =P At 5 months she’s also likely to be super hormonal since she is not spayed yet. Costs of spaying can vary from place to place so you can probably look up a couple rabbit-savvy vets around you to get some quotes. But female bunnies should definitely get spayed to prevent future health issues.
  
  Also, even if she was “litter box trained” with the previous owner, she is in a new environment and probably just needs to be re-trained in her new home (if the pooping isn’t solely territorial). You mentioned cleaning her cage and replacing the bedding… do you have a litter box in the cage? If you don’t have a litter box and just bedding all over, that would also be why she’s pooping all over the inside of her cage because the whole cage would seem like a giant litter box. Just put litter/bedding in the litter box (not necessary on the cage floor) and plop some hay on top.

  Thank you so much that was very helpful! and just to verify she has a litter box in her cage with litter in it and bedding over it. I don’t need bedding on the cage floor?

  No, no bedding of any kind on the floor until she has great litterbox habits. And even then some buns can’t have a blanket as it’s too tempting to pee on soft surfaces :p so just put it in the litterbox and when she does well you can add a blanket to the bottom flooring. Although my buns prefer the tile part of their cage more than the rug they have in there. Very cute bun, btw!

  You’re welcome, glad it helps! While us humans will tend to believe bedding on the cage floor will be for their comfort, bedding on the cage floor isn’t necessary and only confuses them from learning good litter habits since the material is the same in both places. When I first got my bun, I worried about the plastic floor not being comfortable so I put a grass mat down for him to have different options of material to lay on.
