My bunny just made a very strange sound with his mouth. He is almost 8 years old. He has been eating, drinking, and pooping. However, a few minutes ago, he opened his mouth pretty widely (not as wide as a yawn) and made this strange click/cluck sound. He did it three or four times (opening his mouth like that each time). It is not his teeth grinding. I’ve never seen him do this before. Has anyone else seen their rabbit do this and/or know what it could be?

Thank you so much for your time!

        Kellie

I forgot to add that he stopped when I went over to him and hasn’t done it again.

It sounds like simple articulation of the jaw. Rabbits (most animals?) have a similar temporomandibular joint as is found in humans. When the mouth is opened and closed, the condyle moves in and out of its “resting place” and this may cause a popping or clicking sound. A sound isn’t harmful in itself (think of cracking your knuckles).
