  While at Petsmart today (I had to pick up something for my cat) I was looking through the bunny toys and treats as well as the cat toys (I had a few extra bucks and either the cat or rabbits deserved a toy). I noticed a few things:
  
  1) Wicker balls are expensive in the rabbit section and cheap in the cat section. Actually, in the rabbit section it is four times the price than in the cat section. I know where I’ll be getting the wicker toys from now on, hope this helps anyone else who goes through a ton of wicker toys. It seemed hard to believe that they were charging more for a rabbit toy than for a cat toy that were the exact same, but I guess it is some part of marketing.
  
  2) Almost every treat (in the FOR RABBITS) section contains flour or yogurt. These are both bad for bunnies, right? Is oat flour bad? Someone once told me that oats are fine to use as treats, but oat flour is not. Is this true? What treats are ok for bunnies and at what age can you begin feeding the okay for rabbits treats?
  
  3) There were some ADORABLE rabbit treats shaped like pumpkins for Halloween that were not only on sale, but had two in each pack (as someone who has two bunnies, this is nice because they can each have their own treat). However, they contained flour, which I believe is bad for the bunnies. But I really want to give the rabbits something for Halloween so I decided to make them a “haunted house” from a cardboard box decorated with ghosts and things on the outside. Food dye is good for this, right? Has anyone done this before or painted any design onto a box with food coloring? Has anyone encountered any problems with doing this?

  2. What kind of flour – there are different kinds. I feed my rabbits treats daily.
  
  3. Again, what kind of flour. I would just give them the boxes – the decorations really are just for your enjoyment – they won’t notice those but will enjoy just a good old cardboard box.

  Most of the treats say oat flour or wheat flour, are either of these two ok? And they have tons of cardboard boxes to play in, but I thought it might be cute to have a Halloween one. If I can’t figure out how to paint it with food dye, I’ll just cut out a jack-o-lantern face into a cardboard box.

  My feeling is those flours would be okay, on occasion. The starch probably acts as a binder but still digestable. id prefer that over molasses or corn syrup.
  
  Tumeric would make a good natural dye. I imagine it would look close to orange painted on cardboard. I think it’s relatively safe… I know some give turmeric supplement to their arthritic rabbits.

  Lucky Star, just boil a cup of water, and pour it in a bowl. Take another bowl and add as much turmeric as you want in the DRY BOWL! Slowly add water like a teaspoon at a time and mix thoroughly each time until you get a lovely orange paste that you can smear on cardboard. Then smear it on and voila! If you paint just like me, you have an ugly orangish smudge! The colour looks nice though, it’s just my painting that’s terrible XD!
  
  When I was really little my friend had a natural crazed mother and one birthday party we were making paint to paint with! I painted with raspberries, blueberries, tumeric, some other spice, and I think some blended spinach for green. It was cool we made our own paper bag dresses
  
  Sorry reliving memories, thanks for the point on wicker balls! Muffin likes tearing them apart and leaving the remains in his water dish.
  
  It would be so cool to have a Halloween themed box for Muffin, he wouldn’t care about the deco, but it would be so cool for me! Great Idea Lucky Star!

  Muffinluv- My Cinnabun does that too! Wicker balls always end up in little bits in the water dish. Silly bunnies!
  That’s cool that you made your own paints, I would never have thought to do that! And thanks for the ehow, I can’t wait to make one this weekend for the boys! They probably won’t care, but maybe I can get some good pictures of a rabbit chewing on a ghost or jack-o-lantern. Fun for the rabbits and for me!
