sorry for posting on here so much aha i just cant find information i can trust anywhere else

my friend owns a farm and she gave me a 20 pound bag of timothy hay cubes, theyre very very hard and she said to soak them in hot water for my rabbit to eat because thats what they do to soften it up for some of the horses. i tried that and it was all mushy and gross and i didnt think it would benefit my bunny at all because its so watery theres nothing for him to chew on. so ive been giving him a bowl of cubes, as well as tons of loose timothy hay 24/7 and hes been chewing on them and eating them all the time. theres nothing else in the cubes, just timothy hay. are these okay to let him have all the time as well as normal hay ? he really likes chewing on them or should they just be a treat or something?

Hmm, well as always, the loose hay is best, that should be his main food source. However, I bet the Timothy hay cubes are probably very good for his teeth if they’re hard, and it’s all good if it keeps his teeth in tip top shape! Don’t bother soaking them in water for him.

I, personally, would give him one, once a week. While they’re good for his teeth, you don’t want to put him off loose hay! We all know how picky our buns are sometimes…

The cubes aren’t that great for teeth. The thing that wears the teeth down is the grinding motion of eating a full strand of hay. The cubes are a good treat, but I wouldn’t let them be a staple in his diet. I break one in half each day for my two and they each get a half. Don’t need to soak them, buns are fine with them just as they are.
