Some people on another site are telling me that rabbits hate having companions and prefer to be alone… From what I read that is a load of bull, am I right in thinking that Mako would like a friend after bonding or what??

Most rabbits very much enjoy having a companion. Unfixed rabbits are much more territorial, and same sex rabbits don’t get along as well (and obviously keeping opposite sex couples that are unfixed is a no-no), so that statement is generally true if you’re talking about unneutered buns. When it comes to fixed bunnies, most love having a companion. One of mine really thrives with having a buddy. The other could take it or leave it I think, but he enjoys the snuggles and interaction.

Our domestic bunnies are descended from wild European rabbits which live in large social groups called warrens. It’s silly to say that they are solitary animals at heart.

The difference is probably that these people were all or majority rabbit breeders and showers. I thought they were wrong but I wanted to be sure before I bring home that second rabbit. (also hey there! lol) I wanted a second because I can be gone a lot and I travel a lot and I thought it would be good for her to have that.

I think rabbits enjoy companionship and that it can come from humans or other rabbits.

It’s important to remember when getting a second rabbit that not all rabbits will bond with each other. There is always a risk of having two rabbits that will need to be housed separately for their entire lives. I think anyone getting a second rabbit should be prepared for that possibility and get a second rabbit because they want one not because they think their rabbit needs a friend. The best way to ensure you will get a rabbit that will bond with Mako is to take her bunny dating. This is where you take her to shelters and/or rescues and have her meet other rabbits until one compatible is found.

As Elrowen said, to bond bunnies they should all be spayed/neutered beforehand.
