  So a few months ago I had noticed that when I moved the fur on Cookie's hocks, it revieled a redish stripe. I was worried he had sore hocks, so I took him to my vet. She told me that his feet were just a little irratated, and was not even near sore hocks. She told me that every once and a while I could put something on his feet called a liquid bandage. So I have been doing that. The thing is, I am now confused about how sore hocks on rabbits should look compare to a normal rabbit's feet. So I was wondering if someone could move the fur from their rabbit's back feet and take a picture. Then show a picture of a rabbit's back feet with sorehocks. It would also be helful if someone could point out the differences. I really don't want Cookie to have sore hocks when I don't know about it.

  I have recently been going through sore hocks with my rabbits. It is normal for rabbits to get clauses on the back of their feet (aka hocks). Clauses look pink and are sometimes a little flaky. If the hocks look pretty flaky and yucky I would place soft materials such as layers of towels and fleece down to provide a softer and more flexible surface. If your rabbit hocks are red, then that is sore hocks and they need to have treatment. What worked great for my rabbits is to soak a T-shirt in 1/30 nolvasan and the rest water. Squeeze access out if he t-shirt and place it in a carrier and let your rabbit sit on it for about 20min. Do that twice a day for a few weeks. Works great and is safe! You can also soak a towel in Epsom salt water and let them sit on that to reduce swelling in the meantime. The nolvasan works better.

  How can you prevent sorehocks? My bun has a mat where her playpen goes and blankets and such, do I need more soft materials?

  The thing is, if he had sore hocks, wouldn’t my vet recognize it?

  As Mocha said, calluses aren’t an issue but if your rabbits feet become inflamed, bleed, swell, irritated, etc… Then you have a rabbit with sore hocks.
  
  Did your vet explain why they recommend liquid bandages? I don’t understand how that will help. My vet recommended Healx/Avix Soother Plus for my rabbit that has sore hock issues and it worked great. It’s non-prescription and I you just rub in on the area. I know some people have used bag balm and neosporin (without pain reliever) with success.

  Kayota – Most rabbits living indoors on solid flooring won’t have an issue with sore hocks. Some are more pre-disposed to it than others and/or have less fur on their feet. Even rabbits on 100% soft flooring can get sore hocks and calluses.
  
  If your rabbit develops calluses you just have to keep an eye on them but there’s not much else to do.

  My vet said he didn’t have sore hocks. But she did say that they were a tiny bit irritated. The liquid bandage dries on to his feet creating another layer on the bottom of his feet. That way it would provide extra support for him. So I am wondering, how do normal rabbit feet look like? Also, do you think I should take a picture of his feet, and that way maybe someone could tell me if they look like sore hocks or not? Sorry, I am a bit confused.

  If it is red then I call that sore hocks. A callus is pink and not irritated. Switch your rabbits flooring to soft materials and I strongly recommend the nolvasan! It really worked for my rabbits!

  I agree with Mocha, if the area is irritated or red I would call it sore hocks.
  
  I'll try to talk my husband into helping me take pictures of some of my bunnies feets later. None of them have irritated feet right now so they would just be of a callused foot and "normal" foot. But I might have an old pic of Monty's feet from the first time he had sore hocks.

  I’ll put more blankets and fleeces on the bottom of my pen. So because he has sore hocks I have to go to the vet so she would tell me what to do right? I was hoping I wouldn’t have to go to the vet again because I went already six times in about five months. Each time he was perfectly healthy. But I am willing to go again if it is necessary.

  Hi everyone,
  
  A week ago I went to Bunny Bunch, an amazing rabbit shelter where I adopted Cookie from, and had them look at his feet. The Owner of the place, said that they looked perfectly normal. She said if his feet were swollen and infected, that is when I am supposed to take him to the vet. I was sooo relieved from her answer! I just wanted to thank you guys for all your responses even though Cookie’s feet are perfectly fine!
