When I adopted my buns, the HRS said that woodstove pellets are a good alternative to paper litter pellets. I saw some at Lowe’s the other day, so I was wondering what brand and kind would be good, as they are much cheaper than litter.

Really any kind of untreated wood stove pellets are fine. Just make sure they have zero fuel on them.

Any kind, you just want to make sure there are no additives; they’ll often say on them. The kind I buy have pictures of animals at the bottom of the bag and even note that they can be used for animal bedding

I have bought wsp from Lowes for years and have never had a problem with them. The brand varies from year to year.

One thing to keep in mind, depending on where you live, the pellets are seasonal. My local store only has them in the winter, so I buy all of my bags at once and store them. With two buns, I would go through about 7 bags a year. Just be aware that you might go back to buy more and they are out for the season.

I really like WSP. I previously used Yesterday’s News, and they seem to work about the same.

I like pine pellets – which seem to look similar to wood stove pellets. I get a 40lb bag at petsmart for $12.

Wanted to add that depending on your area, softwood or hardwood pellets will be more readily available. Both work well, and the pine is fine because it’s treated to have no harmful oils left.
