Hey there!
I have a bonded five-some and it is the GREATEST. I absolutely adore watching them interact and mingle between each other and with so many in the group their dynamics are always changing.
With this being said – there are some things you should DEFINITELY consider before attempting to add in a third.
1. Do you have the space/time/energy to accommodate and care for three separate bunnies if they don’t bond and it ends up hurting the relationship between your already bonded duo? Or do you have the time/space to accommodate a separate one if the two don’t accept the third?
2. If you get a third bunny, make sure it’s because it’s what YOU want. Bonding can be a very, very stressful process. Having bonded a trio, a fourth, and then a fifth – I can tell you sometimes it really takes a lot of work, is incredibly stressful for everyone involved, and can just be downright depressing when it’s not going positively and you can’t get past the bumps so really make sure that’s what you are ready and prepared for!
3. Do you have the TIME to bond? Bonding can take anywhere from a couple of days, a month, or even many months and you have to be prepared for all of these possibilities. I am a FIRM believer that any bunnies are bondable but sometimes it can be very difficult and frustrating to push your way through and continue no matter what happens. So be ready for any bonding stresses to come your way. With that being said, there are a few of us on here who have a lot of experience and ideas to offer when it comes to bonding… and we are ALWAYS willing to help others out as we know how sometimes you need not only advice but emotional support as well. (Believe me, sometimes it really can feel like it’s never going to happen.)
