        Sorry everyone, me again..

Lately I’ve noticed Biddy’s urine is sort of milky in consistency, and after reading up on it I’ve learned it’s most likely from too much calcium in her diet. The people who owned her before me were giving her alfalfa hay only which is pretty high on calcium, so I read. I’ve been trying to switch her to oat hay but she prefers the alfalfa so I’m not sure what the best course of action is here. Is it a bad idea to remove the alfalfa hay altogether?

I am not an expert at switching foods, but I would cut it out for a few hours, and see if Biddy eats any. If he eats some, leave the hay, but if he doesn’t, mix it half and half with the alfalfa and try again the next day. Also, make sure he is on a high quality Timothy pellet, like oxbow bunny basics.

Well urine can be any color from white to red to brown. Rabbits do need calcium and they excrete it through their urine but it doesn’t mean it’s “too much calcium”. I looked at your profile and you say she is 4 months old…I would definitely try to switch her to a grass hay at this time in any event – alfalfa is not a grass hay really and her pellets are probably alfalfa anyway. You can orchard or timothy is the oat hay was not to her liking – I say cut out the alfalfa altogether as it does not have the benefits of grass hay.

Thank you! I also just noticed I posted this in the wrong area. How terribly annoying of me.
I started giving her some timothy hay and oat hay and she’ll eat pretty much everything I give her so I think I’ll just cut back on the alfalfa hay a little. Should I introduce the new hay carefully or is it safe to give her unlimited right away?

You can pretty much switch hay types around willy nilly. Doesn’t need to be slowly introduced like pellets or veggies.

Perfect, thank you! She seems to like the oat hay now so I think it should be alright.
