What is going to happen to her. I came home from work and my husband told me that, “Sally was being bad, so he put her away” I was say, “How was she being bad?” and he shows me the remote… it is nearly FLAT because almost ALL of the buttons have been eaten! Not just chewed and spit out but EATEN!! I am so worried! I’m not mad that the remote is tarnished, I’m worried for Sally. I asked him how long ago this happened and why he wasn’t watching her and he said it was about an hour ago. I told him Sally wasn’y being bad, she was being a rabbit. You were being bad!

What’s going to happen to her? When will she start showing signs that the buttons have messed her up? Is there a good chance she will get sick? Is there an even better chance she will pass the buttons with no issues. I’m so scared for her life If there is a blockage, how would the vet be able to help? GUYS IM SO SCARED!!!

Rule number one: If you don’t want it eaten, hide it

Make sure she eats a lot of hay, and drinks plenty of water. Thats the best way to get it through her system I wouldn’t worry yet, unless she shows signs of not wanting to eat or go potty

Hi NBO… You know the mantra…. Hay, Water, vegies and more hay…. Monitor poops and posture….. Make a vet appointment and see if there is anything that can be prescribed to keep things moving and prevent anything from blocking.

It depends on how well she chewed them up I suppose. Like the others said, make sure she’s eating tons of hay and drinking lots of water. Monitor her pooping. I would even change her litter frequently so you can keep track.

He’s normally very good at keeping things out of reach. And before going to work I always hide all chords and put everything away so my husband doesn’t have to worry about missing anything and he fell asleep and couldn’t hear or even feel a rabbit on his chest munching away on the remote control! She’s 6.5 pounds how he didn’t notice her on his chest, I don’t know!
I’m so worried. It’s been an hour and she is eating hay right now and I am about to feed them their morning salad. It will be a bit difficult monitoring poops as her and Harley share a litter box so hopefully I will be able to notice a shortage if she does decide to stop pooping. Gosh I haven’t been this worried about my rabbit since I was an actual new bunny owner!

It should pass thru ok. She might not have even ingested that much. Did you look in the floor or sofa? You might see the bits of rubber scattered about.

(((Sally))) For what it’s worth, I know of other rabbits having done this with no ill effects.

I looked around and didnt see anything. I even ran my hands over to try and feel anything I might not have seen. She definitely ate them! She is still eating lot of hay and looks comfortable. I will just keep close watch for awhile.

When would you say we are in the clear that she will be ok? Like if I wake up tomorrow morning to her begging for pellets does that mean she will be ok? Sorry, I tend to over react and worry/stress when any of my animals are in potential danger with their health.

I think you’d be in the clear then. It probably takes around 12-15hrs for stuff to pass through the tract.

I found this a hope it puts your mind at ease. http://en.allexperts.com/q/Rabbits-703/2008/2/Rabbit-s-Ingested-Plastic.htm

I know how you feel, once, Smudge managed to get his paws on some chocolate, but I took it away before he could get too much. I was worrying for ages after but he was fine.

I’m sure your bunny will be okay. We had a rabbit who tried to eat everything. Rubbers, pens, pencils, there was so much! Anything he could eat really. And not just chew he ate it. I don’t mean to worry you, but unfortunately Pickles died from blockage. But this doesn’t mean your bunny will too. He ate about 10 times 23 buttons on a remote and he was fine (until a point) so luckily, your bunny will be fine. Just make sure Sally doesn’t develop a habit for it!

Blossom has managed to eat half of the Bunny Room fly screen. Thankfully the fly screen is on the inside… Blossom has also eaten a large chunk out of the vertical blinds (after removing the box I put over them to protect them from her)…
All things have come to pass…..
The replacement flyscreen is in stainless steel.

Well she seems fine this morning. Ate her salad and is munching on hay right now. It hasn’t been 12-15 hours though so ill continue to keep watch for the remainder of the day but I’m feeling better about the situation thanks guys!

Me too! Last night I dreamt that she had died! It wasn’t from the buttons but because of heat! When I woke up this morning I told my husband to go check on her before I walked into the living room because I was so afraid due to that darn dream!

Haven’t had a scare like that in awhile. Anyhoo, she just plopped a big pile of poops so it’s safe to say she is going to be just fine. Who knew poops were such a welcoming sight. Case closed.

My bunny yohio ate half a small plastic ball, but it didn’t seem to harm him. I was a bit worried though.

She’ll probably be fine. Powder has eaten our remote control buttons before and all it did was make him binky around the house.

Foo has eaten half a jelly bean, the legs off her sheepy, multiple wires, and the packaging of a bag of treats she stole to eat at her own will. She’s been fine. Oh, and a quarter of a graham cracker. We get mad and always want to take her to the vet, but we keep baby gas drops on hand and watch her poop and eating closely afterwards. It happens, unfouranetly we can’t watch them all the time.

Yeah and I honestly wouldn’t have freaked out if she ate only a couple of buttons (she ate two before) But I was alarmed at how many she ate in one sitting. It was enough for an entire meal!

That little bugger! I’m glad she seems okay today. They sure love the taste of those buttons.

Haha! That sounds like Freya (and more recently Zeus too)

I swear, my girl has a cast iron stomach, the remote buttons were the first ‘bad’ thing she ate (trying to get my son to remember to pick things up is proving to be tougher than toilet training the bunnies) she has eaten the remote buttons. She also has a taste for sneakers, school shoes and Wellington boots [mainly the soles of them], She has eaten most my kids pencils [she can bite clean though a single pencil in two bites…. Ive seen it, she saw me coming towards her to take the nice yummy pencil away so she bite it hard twice to make sure I wouldnt want to keep it anyway… I was mean and still took it off her though ) she has eaten two holes in my carpet (luckily I hadn’t finished laying it, so the bits she chewed were the overhanging bits saved me a job haha). I have caught her trying to eat the metal bristles on her grooming brush. She is addicted to garlic bread and will chase you around the flat trying to steal it from you.

Her most recent robbery was the banana bread I made, but she didn’t like the walnuts in it so she ate around it and left the nuts on my plate for me -_-
Zeus on the other hand likes to lick things. The radiator, the wall, the french windows

Basically, if its not nailed down and its not high enough that a child of 6 can reach it… its fair game to any rabbit quick enough

Sally is doing fine. Actually, saw a big pause\play button in puppy poop this morning! So she may have dropped a few buttons and her Partner in Crime, Brevin, took away the evidence!!
