One of our main rabbit rescues and shelters here in Perth is having to downgrade and close due to a family tragedy…

I am heart broken for them…. They are also friends and I cannot express the saddness I am feeling for them right now…

We also need to help rehome all the buns, it is going to be a monumental task and will require a combined effort by all the local rescues but there is no other choice…

Vibes would be great right now… plus any suggestions for launching a large scale adoption drive and other possible resources that can be utilised..

Oh no that’s such a shame.

Would your RSPCA be able to take some?

            (I’ve PM’d you)

Trust me Jersey, You do not take any animal to the RSPCA in Perth if you want it to live… Asking them for help is pointless as there have been several animal emergencies recently and they ignored all requests for assistance. Thankfully the community is pretty strong so we had tradesmen and other people volunteering to release trapped and injured animals whilst the RSPCA sat on their hands. I won’t even go into detail about the time a friend went in with a cat, not to leave it, but to find a vet in the area that helps with rescues and the harpie behind the counter screamed at her as she walked through the door (and continued to do so until L reached the counter “We don’t take cats, we don’t take cats can’t you see the sign, it’s the RSPCA WE DONT TAKE CATS”

Major sanity Vibes coming your way!

How many rabbits are you dealing with? Do you guys have a network of fosters who might be able to take in a few additional rabbits short-term?

As far as an adoption drive, could you advertise a reduced adoption fee (for “qualified adopters”) or “adopt one, get a bunny buddy for half the original fee”. Hopefully, you guys would also be able to provide a bonding “hotline” to help new bunny owners get through the process. (I am assuming that all the buns are already spay/neutered and you are not trying to recoup funds, simply find the best homes fast as possible.)

                Keep us posted!

I don’t know if reducing the fees are reasonable in the situation, I only suggested that b/c of a recent advertisement that our local shelter had going around. They were overrun with cats so they were adopting out adult fixed cats for $5 each. They had a great response.

                    Hi Beka,
I think the last count was about 80 all told. If you take out the special needs permanent residents its about 75…..
I haven’t been able to get an exact figure as yet..
