Whoppie is my oldest and most loved house bun. Shes a black silkie-sauras rex bunbun. Shes about 10 lbs. The mommy figure of any other bunnies she comes around. She is between 3 and 4 years old, I adopted her about 2 years ago from the st Louis humane society, where they told me’ she was fixed. I’ve had her around a handful of other house bunnies in the past, all of which were female. She would take turns thumping each other once in awhile, or snap or lunge at each other when getting on each others nerves or in a bad mood, but I have never seen her spray another rabbit or area to assert dominance or mark her territory.

A few days ago, we adopted a 4 year old male holland lop, Spunkie. He may be a mini or small breed because he is only about 5-6 lbs. He seems boney, less chunky and well fed as Whop, which will change with time to fatten him up but anyway, Spunkie has been caged most of his life, unlike Whoppie, so is very shy and doesn’t explore too too much, likes to hop back in his house (cage) and sleep. It’s been pretty difficult actually to get him to understand he can come out when he wants and he can explore farther than a few feet from his house. Spunkie also, however, is not fixed. Every time I have sat on the floor and tried to introduce them to each other, they would take turns thumpin and humpin each other, but after a few minutes I have to just seperate them because they don’t stop, and I’m afraid them nip nipping each other on the back of the necks is going to eventually hurt one of them bad. I pretty much just saw whoppie hop over to him, and whip her butt around and whip spray him, which I’ve never seen before, I even felt it, on my leg, granted it was only 2 or 3 drops, but this is very alarming to me’ that she could possibly NOT be fixed, and if he get her pregnant and she has babies, She is very likely to die, being such an older age and never having babies to begin with.

        Help ease my mind?
Or do I have the right mindset to worry?? :-/

This is actually pretty common during bonding, haha!

As gross as it is – I’m helping another girl bond her three rabbits and one of them has taken to doing this same behavior and I know for a fact he’s fixed so I wouldn’t worry too much. Is there a certain reason he’s not fixed? I wouldn’t try to attempt any more bonding sessions until he’s fixed. Unaltered rabbits can really be vicious if they become territorial during bonding. Bonding can be very difficult (and almost impossible a lot of the time) with unaltered buns.

My advice would be to get him fixed and THEN try bonding in the future!
