         Hi Everyone!

I have a 9 year old bunny, Thumper. She has Poopy Butt and she smells. I don’t want to give her a Butt Bath- She really dislikes that. Does anyone have a suggestion on this? Thanks!

Have you had a vet check her out lately for the poopy butt problem?

Poopy butt isn’t a normal thing for a rabbit. This indicates a bigger problem. A vet check is very important so he/she can check for parasites. If the fecal test comes back negative, it may be a diet issue. The vet can help you determine what needs to be done to address this issue.

This can also be arthritis – it may be too painful to clean her butt or eat her cecals and an x-ray will show arthritis.

It’s definitely important to find the cause in a rabbit this age.

Oh yes! Arthritis is another possibility. I don’t think I noticed that you posted she is a senior rabbit. A vet visit is a good idea.

Thumper doesn’t have major Arthritis. She moves around fine-she can’t hop very high though. I called the vet and they said that she was fine. The vet said to check her diet because she could just be sitting in dihhera if you feed her too many treats. They also said to clean the litterboxes every other day to prevent Poppy Butt. If she continued to have Poopy Butt, I would take her in. For the stinky smell- I had to trim her fur around the “Poop Area”. Thank You so much for your help and concerns!
